Would it be a good idea to bring the kids (3 and 6) to Hawaii? Husband and I have never been. Trying to think of some place fabulous and Disney is a hell on earth in my opinion.

No way would I spend that much money on a trip for a 3 and 6 year old when they'd get so little out of it. Wait 5-10 years to when they'll both appreciate it more.

Pearl Harbor - they'd get nothing out of
Golfing - nothing
Beach - they are beautiful but a 3/6 year old wouldn't know the difference between there and panama.

If you and your husband go alone, fine. With kids that young, no. Just no.

We went 2 years ago with a family of 6 (kids were 11,8,5&1)
Easy trip and all of the kids had a blast. We stayed at Honua Kai on Maui which was very laid back and peaceful. Would definitely do over if given the chance.

The six year old will remember this forever. The three year old won't remember any of it.

Any other recommendations? Disney is not an option.

What activities are you wanting to do on vacation? If you are just planning to do the typical lounge on the beach all day stuff I think you are better off saving money and doing the typical gulf coast beach trip. Could drive and rent a nice condo/house for a fraction of the cost to fly to Hawaii and stay in a small hotel room. If you are looking for beach but not the typical gulf coast vacation, you may look at a Caribbean/Mexico all inclusive. They have some great ones that cater to families. Could also look at a cruise. I know you don't want Disney world but you could do a Disney cruise for less than Hawaii. I've down the world a lot and we did a Disney cruise a couple years ago and it was a lot more relaxing than the theme park. Your kids would probably love that.

I have kids about the same age of yours and I wouldn't take them to Hawaii at that age as what they would have fun doing would be a waste spend money taking them to Hawaii. I will say that my wife and I are planning for just us to go to Hawaii in 2018 for a week when Auburn plays in the Maui Invitational.

Do your kids not like Disney or something?

A family trip with a 3yo is tough. Do y'all like the outdoors? Camping? What time of year is this trip?

Disney has a resort in Hawaii called Aulani.

Summer. We like the beach but we are also adventurous, especially daddy and 6 year old. No camping. We like resorts.

I own DVC. My wife and I were just at Aulani 4 weeks ago. We have a 3 yo. He did not come.

I can't imagine taking a vacation without my kids...
That being said, the time change to Hawaii is rough. Expect to be going to bed early and getting up way before the sun...at least you get the beach to yourselves for a few hours.

Same here. Don't get me wrong, we love our alone adult time but after 2 days we miss them terribly. No way I could enjoy myself that long without my kids.

At that age you can take them to Hilton Head (this isn't a knock on Hilton Head at all, a recommendation actually) and they won't know the difference. The memories will be just as fond, you'll have just as much fun, and save a hell of a lot of money.
