We're trying to plan a quickish trip this weekend and have never been to this area. We were supposed to go skiing but group lessons being cancelled for our kids was the death nail. Anyway, we have a 4, 6, and 7 year old. The plan right now is to rent a cabin in Murfreesboro and do one day of Fall Creek Falls and the The Cavern and one day in Nashville. With a third day spent at the Cabin, exploring that area. This is all very tentative. Appreciate any suggestions of other things that we could do or shouldn't do in the area as well other recommendations on where to stay.

I have been to all the TN State parks in that area and Fall Creek Falls will be a very nice day trip. However I have not been in the winter but there are easy to hike with good scenic views, Burgess Falls is good too. I just enjoy the drives through the countryside in that area but with 3 young ones it may be different.

Also, while in Murfreesboro you could take a few hours and visit the Stones River Battlefield for interesting civil war history and there is a quaint courthouse area downtown but not sure how it would be with Covid.

Fall Creek Falls is nice in the winter because the views are more open and it's way less crowded. We've had a good bit of rain up that way, so the falls should be flowing nicely. Do not ignore the safety signs there. Ice is a legit killer there this time of year, both from you slipping and falling off or ice falling on you.

Other interesting landscapes in that part of the world are Savage Gulf/Stone Door, Rock Island State Park, and Old Stone Fort. Stone Door has amazing views. Rock Island is awesome when the water is really flowing through there. Old Stone Fort is very an interesting archeological destination.

When you say The Cavern, are you talking Cumberland Caverns? That's pretty cool. The overnight tour is the better tour, but the day tour is still pretty interesting.

Thanks for the suggestions and the heads up on safety. Yes, it’s the Cumberland caverns. I’ll look into those other suggestions. Thanks for the responses.
