I have a flight voucher from earlier this year to use so I decided to spend a few days in Colorado for my first trip to the Rockies. Originally I was going the last week of September but a scheduling conflict caused me to push it back to mid October. Has anyone been that time of year? I was wondering mostly about snowfall and how it might affect roads and trails.

Trails might have snow might not. Roads should be fine. It might be 20 degrees and snowing or could be 70 degrees and sunny or both in one day. Welcome to the Rockies. Going to be 90s here this weekend then snow Tuesday.

I'm going to a wedding at Trout Haven resorts in Estes Park from October 15-18. We are going to drive from Oklahoma because we are taking the dog.

Roads and all will be fine for travel.

I’d like to take the trail ridge road to Grand Lake one day. I’ve read that they usually shut it down mid to late October for the year. Do they normally do partial closures early or is the entire road off limits once snow falls?

I was there Oct 4 through Oct 6 2018. Beautiful Aspens in full color plenty of elk bugling. Beautiful weather but it snowed up high and we were unable to get over the mountain to get to Grand Lake.

They will shut it down for the snow Tuesday this week then plow and reopen it. They close it for the year when temps get cold up there the snow starts to stay.

I was wondering the same thing. We’re flying in Oct 17th. Hoping we can still do Trail Ridge Road rd and some of the higher altitude hikes
