Early/mid October: Vancouver or Seattle
Which one, and why?

Portland because it's a kick-ass town.

But I can get cheap nonstop tix from NO to Seattle on Alaskan Air.....no direct to Portland. Thinking of driving to Port Townsend/Olympic to spend a few days.

Seattle. You can do Vancouver for a day trip easily and then maybe a day cruise around British Columbia islands another day.

Do the triangle. Start in Seattle ferry to Port Townsend then ferry to Victoria then ferry to Vancouver and drive back to Seattle Great time of year to be up there

re: Early/mid October: Vancouver or Seattle
Have never been to Seattle except to drive by it on the Interstate.

But, I have been to Vancouver twice; about 20 years ago and we stayed there 3 nights after an Alaska cruise in 2017. I like Vancouver a lot; the people are courteous for the most part, the food is good and there are a lot of things to see there. I like the Asian influence but you probably get that in Seattle as well.

We stayed after the cruise specifically to drive to Whistler. I had driven there 20 years ago and thought my wife would enjoy it. She did. That drive has changed a lot, due to the Olympics they had a few years ago.

I had the most perfectly cooked shrimp I've ever eaten at an out of the way Chinese restaurant on my first trip. I could not find it this last trip.

If we ever get back we will go to Victoria on Vancouver Island. It takes some planning to go there as it is not a quick trip.

We stayed at a hotel on Hornby St within walking distance of where the cruise ships dock and Gastown.

Vancouver and it’s not vaguely close . Vancouver may be the most beautiful major city in NA, it has incredible natural beauty and walkability, and it has all the water taxis and markets and Stanley Park. Seattle is SOOO overrated.
