Thinking of booking a trip for Thanksgiving.

New Orleans has the Carnival Dream and the Norwegian Breakaway.
Of course I would prefer leaving out of New Orleans, but I have family in Galveston so I was considering that as a possibility.
Galveston has the Royal Carribean Liberty and the Carnival Freedom.

Any thoughts on any of these four ships.
Kids are 12 and 16 so it's mostly about them, but I do like good food if that matters.

Carnival Breeze or Vista out of Galveston. Norwegian Breakaway out of NOLA.

With kids that age take Carnival out of Galveston. RCI is not worth the Xtra money these days in those ports. The newer Carnival ship in Galveston is 10 years newer than the Liberty OTS.

Liberty just had a dry dock and refurb two years ago. It's a magnificent ship.

You seem to have a lot of cruise experience if I recall correctly.
Is it worth me going to Galveston or just stick with the NCL boat out of Nola?

I'm going to book a balcony room and NCL has the unlimited drink package as one of the freebies so that is calling my name.

The difference in price btn NCL and Carnival (cheaper) will pay for your drink package. Also, they don't give you full size drinks or your pick of liquor on the drink packages. Do some research. You may be better off getting the specialty restaurants on NCL.

Price it out and see what works best for you. If you'd rather go out of NOLA, do it.

I've been out of Galveston 4 times and it's a great port. I'd never go out of NOLA bc I don't want to spend all of the first day sailing switchbacks down the Mississippi. I also live in Dallas, so it's much easier for me to get to the TX coast.

Ended up booking the NCL Breakaway. Got a cabin with a slightly larger than average room and bigger balcony. Did the unlimited drinks and specialty dining as the "freebies".

The kids are stoked about it all, especially going to Cozumel and the NCL private island.

I'm going in with pretty low expectations and will just drink more if things get annoying.

Seems the prices were kind of high with this being a Thanksgiving cruise, so maybe that will price out some of the trash.

I think the Breakaway class are great ships. You all will have a great time. Search on Facebook for "Norwegian Breakaway" and the date of your trip. There should be a group formed. These are great for getting to meet ppl before your trip and for asking questions of ppl who are familiar with NCL.

I would choose Breakaway over those ships. I sailed the Escape which is just a larger version. They are nice ships.

Sailed out of New Orleans 2x and Galveston 1x. Both ports have piss poor slow customs. Taking the MS out though is very relaxing. Breakaway will def be nicest ship New Orleans has seen to date. Hated sailing the Dream though. Really dont care for that ship.

This is not true at all. I sailed both the Epic and the Escape last year with the Drink package (i got the 6 day dinner package as the main dining food is not good)

You get full drinks and anything you want up to 15 dollars after 15 dollars you owe the difference. Only thing you cannot get is the champagne in the french bistro.

Yeah, that's the way I understood it and it will be a net money saver for me no doubt.
I will probably drink five or six beers a day, then wine with dinner followed by some hard stuff later.

Be aware its like 220 in tips you will owe on drink package in advance. Still worth not having to worry about huge drink bill. NCLs drink prices are very high as a result though I would not want to sail without the drink package. Most drinks are 12 - 13 dollars. Beer is about 7 or 8. I had a steady diet of caipirinhas.

Heads up: the Breakaway has a New York City theme throughout the whole ship.

We just got off the Norwegian Peal from NOLA. The drink package made that ship. We had a big group and the staff was very laid back about the drink package. They poured the hell out of quaility drinks. Don’t get any type drink package for the kids. The crew doesn’t care and you can order them whatever with no issues. They would let you order 2 alcoholic drinks at a time per card, they didn’t care who the drinks were going to the card was used for inventory purposes only.

We didn’t make any specialty restaurants, the food was ok but not great. The staff was very friendly but with limited tips for the waitstaff wasn’t working really hard. That ship was night and day different in clientel from Carnaval, very few thugs or roll tide white trash, I assume because of the price point.

Sorry, just seeing this.

Im a big fan of Liberty but I don't think you'll be disappointed with NCL

Not 100% positive how the package works with NCL but with RCI the price can vary (i usually wait till it goes on sale for at least $44/day) and it includes premium coffee , bottled water and any drink up to $12 (unlimited

Im addicted to just doing express disembarkation and walking off early...the madness at both of those ports getting off the ship is a cluster

Been on a couple.

Liberty of the Seas - Royal Caribbean - Galveston and it’s not even close.
