You're looking at right at $2K per person to get everything but clothes. If your family needs clothes, you can count on another $2K byt the time you buy everything.

Is there a benefit to going through a travel agent/service for this to maybe find deals?.
I've tried pricing full trips myself and places like Backpacker beat me every time. Plus, they take care of all the hassle like arranging transport/shuttles, purchasing lift tickets, even booking lessons.

Might be cheaper to rent the clothes. There are a couple of companies that will ship directly to you and you send them back when you’re done.

As someone said before look at Copper and also Winter Park if you want to minimize costs. Also if you were going to fly Denver, the drive time to both is half the time it is to Steamboat. Also flying into Denver is cheaper than Hayden.
Also to minimize costs at any location, don’t do ski-in/ski out. All the towns have free buses that will take you to the mountain with most being no longer than a 20 minute ride. You should be able to do Copper and Winter Park for about $4k depending on flights.
I love Steamboat and am going in December but its more expensive than the other two and the 6 year would be just as happy at Copper or WP and then you get to save money and when he can ski the entire mountain than spend the money to take him somewhere like Steamboat.

I've heard of doing this. Just looked at a couple sites. Looks to be about $30/day for adults, so $150 per adult. About $20/day for kids, so $100. Still have to buy base layers and socks which will run at least $100/person for a single set of "good" stuff.

If you expect this to be a yearly trip I strongly suggest buying clothes vs renting, you will save more in the long run. Check out the-house.com for discounted clothes. Also if you have a Costco membership they normally have ski helmets on sale and base layers throughout the year. Also use the Costco travel site to save money in a rental car.

Ski-in/ski-out is a must for a few reasons but appreciate the advice. Me and my wife have plenty of ski clothes and gear. Just need to get some for my boy.

I agree for adult clothing. For the kid, it might be wise to rent. No way they fit in it a year later.

We borrow and loan out kids clothes with our friends

Yea I guess it depends how fast your kid grows and if you have multiple kids the clothes can be passed down to. So far my oldest has been able to get two years at least out of his. He goes twice a season for trips which also helps justify the cost of buying.

Winter park has more things to do than Copper in case people get sick of skiing, which is completely possible. The tubing hill in frazier is a blast, they also have hot springs nearby.

You can get ski in/out accommodations during that time for $300-350/night at Copper.
Also, Copper is running a special on lift tickets. Believe it’s called the 4-pack. 4 days, no blackouts for $210. $50 bucks a day which is a considerable discount. I think it’s only available for a limited time though so you might want to hop on that.

I've never brought a child, but you can bet on a good $2500/person if you plan on skiing for 5 days. I think you are looking at at least $6000, probably closer to $8000 if you want skin in/out for 6 nights lodging + flights + lift tickets + rental car + equipment rentals + food for 6 days + drink(if you drink) + shopping money + parking at airport....ain't nothing cheap about skiing and mountains jack up the price of everything.

Forgot about ski school for the little one and possibly the adults.

Been many times. You can spend as much as you want, but for 5 days of skiing with 2 adults and a 6 year old it’s not going to cost him 6k+ unless he insists on going at Christmas or going to Jackson Hole
