Summer vacation plans changed at the last minute; family of four with two middle school age kids. On a whim I'm looking at flights to Denver. Too late in the game? Advice?

Love spending summertime in Colorado
The cooler weather in the mountains is a nice break from the summer heat.

Mt Evans highly recommend.
Most of the ski resorts have summer activities. Vail has a really nice, new adventure park at top of Vail with jeep rides, alpine coaster, zip line, tubing, etc. My kid and I enjoyed that.

hell no.

Fly Frontier for Cheeeeaaaaap out of MSY. They have directs to Denver.

Either stay in Steamboat or around Frisco/Dillon.
I wouldn't mess with SW Colorado unless you're doing a road trip.

I recommend getting the Chase Hyatt card to get two free nights at either the Beaver Creek or Keystone locations. Keystone is 10 minutes from Frisco/Dillon.

This'll be a great value for your family, and a great way to save some money.

If you need trail recs let me know. I did about 125 miles last summer and my fiance about 250!

All good information. I'll look into things this weekend. Also would like recommendations for moderate hikes. The kids are in great shape...Not so much for the parents.

Dream Lake offers some of the most stunning landscapes in the park, but with its accessibility come crowds, nay droves of people!
The only way to enjoy the trail is to get there before the others do, unless of course you don't mind that sort of thing.

Parking is limited at the Bear Lake trail head. I'd say get there before 6:30 for a chance at one of those spots. The later you arrive the further away you'll have to park and shuttle.

Beirstadt Lake trail head isn't a bad park and shuttle though.

For whatever reason, I've never started hiking in that area early enough to avoid the mass of humanity hiking down the trail to the shuttle.

The following photos are of Hallett Peak above Dream Lake taken in Late July of 2015 and early July of 2017 (bottom). I've done a full loop both times that includes Mills Lake, but that might be a bit much for the kids.

This is a great resource for RMNP because it includes trail ratings.

If you want a challenge, I'd recommend the less traveled Mt. Ida trail on the west side of the park. The trail offers stunning views of the Never Summer Wilderness and the other half of RMNP. You can even see Grand Lake some 20 miles in the distance. It's way up there at 12,880.

I think it's 9.5 miles
Near the top, when in doubt follow the carns. If you can't locate the carns head to the peak.
You're supposed to be able to see sheep here and I'll be damn if we didn't run into a herd of them!

For the Rockies game, avoid tickets in the RF area, the sun is brutal on that side of the stadium

We made that mistake the first game we went to than for the next game we got tickets in LF/CF

I’ve been looking at that hike, it’s 8 miles right?
looks nearly straight up then straight down

we are early 50’s but decent shape and we will have been at altitude for over a week by the time we get to telluride. Is the hike brutal till you get up top? I’ll assume that hike will take us at least 9-10 hrs?

We move at about a mile every 22-30 minutes depending on picture taking and difficulty

I bet y’all can do it in 6-7 or faster!!

1 mile per hour is slower than you think.

Refer to a post about it I made in a different thread. It is very tiresome, although I made it and I don’t consider myself to be the most in shape. Just make sure you bring plenty of water and food, and take frequent breaks so you don’t over work yourself.
