Caribbean Honeymoon
Posted by elleshoo9 on 4/2/17 at 5:04 pm00
I'm beginning to plan my honeymoon for next April, and looking at various places in the Caribbean.
Does anyone have any experience traveling to Dominica? This island intrigues me because of how lush and tropical it is. From what I'm seeing though is that it is one of the poorer islands in the Caribbean. Also, beaches aren't what it's known for.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Budget would be maxed around $10k. I haven't done much research around Belize or central america but am definitely open to these areas
I'm looking for an all inclusive type place with decent beaches but also fun hiking and exploring. Other places were looking at:
St. Lucia - Sugar Beach, Calabash Cove, Cap Maison
Grenada - Spice Island, Mt. Cinnamon, Laluna
St. Vincent & the Grenadines - Palm Island
Belize - Hamanasi
I've been to the BVI twice, and something like Bitter End or nicer is what I'm looking for.

I've been to the BVI twice (although never Peter Island), so I'm trying to do something different. I also wasn't very impressed by the pictures of the accommodations on the website.
Dominica, St. Lucia, and Grenada are high on my list because they have so much to offer in terms of the nature hiking on the islands. I wanna see waterfalls and shite

I don't know what pictures you saw. Peter Island is a first class resort.
I understand your other points.
Our room was just like this except it was on the first floor so we had a hammock right outside our room. The wall behind the bed was natural stone so that was different.

My wife and I honeymooned in St Lucia. Of all the Caribbean islands I've been to, this is the safest I've felt. We would borrow bicycles from the resort and just ride them into and around the local town.
DR was a pit. Off the resort it just seemed like a giant slum. We took a trip into Santo Domingo and our guide told us all to put our wallets in our front pockets...

We stayed at Rendezvous resort on the NW side of the island. It was just north of the Castries city. The clientele was roughly 80% Brits on holiday. They said most Americans go to sandals on St Lucia.
We loved the resort. It had 3 pools and a lazy river with little private ish cabanas in shade. You had to get out there pretty early to get those spots though. We stayed in the beach front suite with a little gazebo porch. They were awesome to people on honeymoons too. Private dinner mixers for honeymooners, complimentary couples massage, etc.

I second Peter Island
If you're feeling frisky, hang out with Richard Branson, you may be able to afford one night on Necker
Caneel Bay is another good one in St John

I've been researching Belize now and finding a lot of nice places for much better value than Caribbean islands. And packages where you can do several nights at a luxury resort on the beach and several at one in the jungle/mountains. Flights are cheaper and much shorter travel time too to Belize.
St. Barths would be amazing, probably out of my budget

Does St. Barths have much to offer in terms of exploring, nature trails/hiking, etc?
Here you go.
St. Barths Online
The landing on the airstrip will be a highlight. It's a fantastically beautiful island and there are lots of beautiful people there as well.

We honeymooned at st Lucia - sugar beach. Budget should be ok - not sure if that includes flight. We did the all inclusive. We liked the experience so much we went back for our one year anniversary and upgraded to a Beach front bungalow - I highly recommend it. We passed on the all inclusive and decided to make reservations at top restaurants at other resorts - thought it was great. Would definitely go back ---- has cool restaurants, the best beach on that side of the island, and a cool bar.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Starting to look into places for our honeymoon later this year as well. Going to be somewhere in the Caribbean, an all-inclusive somewhere, for a lot less than $10k hopefully. Didn't want to start another thread though. Any recs on where; Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, etc? We are most likely going to go through Costco travel. Any one have any experience going through Costco? We pretty much bought a membership for the travel packages. Went with the exclusive membership so hopefully we get upgrades, etc with wherever we book. Any info is much appreciated. TIA!

I've been seeing a lot more options in Belize, and lower than that 10k budget I originally put. Options to stay half the time I'm the jungle and half on the beach.
