Branson: getting away from the strip recommendations

Long story short...vacation was cancelled due to covid-19.
Limited window and destination choices because;
we have an exchange with RCI and we didn’t want to drive more than ten hours. Didn’t want to do beaches, and we’ve been to Texas plenty (we are in Nola). Virginia and DC drive times were too long for the 3yo. (This is supposed to be a vacation...not penance)
One of the options that kept popping up was Branson. Looks like it is nestled in between some great state and national parks. So Branson it is.
Soo..any of you have any recommendations or tips for that area...not involving dinner theater or other tourist traps?
Headed there in two weeks
Thanks in advance.

If you want to be in town and around shopping, Branson Landing is a good spot. The Hilton Convention Center is across the street or the Hilton Branson Landing is over the shops.
If you prefer to be out and enjoy nature, Big Cedar is about 15 minutes south of town.

Upon advise from a member here, I am taking my grand-daughter to Big Cedar, in Ridgedale. Reviews are great. Pics are awesome. Appears much to do.

Do go to Bass Pro in Springfield and checkout the aquarium and museum. No expenses spared as one would expect. Visit top of the rock. Have a killer golf cart trail with waterfalls, great views, a drive through cave and bar for the parents, Dogwood Canyon is awesome. I’d stay at either Big Cedar, Chateau on the Lake, or the Hilton on the Landing. If I did the Hilton I’d request room 311 or 411 as it is a corner room with giant balcony overlooking the nightly fire and water fountain show. Also a lot of good places nearby to rent a boat for the day.

How long would you recommend staying at Big Cedar?
Does anyone recommend staying in a lake cabin in that area over one of the resorts?
Anyone know if Silver Dollar City will open this summer?

If you’re driving from Nola with kids what’s a good stoping point to break up the drive?

Hot Springs, AR isn't too far out of the way. A bit over halfway to Branson. Kind of a boring place imo. I'd opt for Greers Ferry Lake or Heber Springs. You can wear the trout out at Lindsey's Resort on the Little Red River in Heber Springs.

This! We love dogwood canyon. The aquarium is pretty amazing too. We enjoy Silver Dollar City as well. Just got email from them today that they will be opening June 15th.i think you need to make a reservation since they will be limiting the number of people. Make sure you do the cave. We usually go on our way from KC back to Texas. Make sure you eat breakfast at Billy Gail's Cafe.

My wife is from Missouri and we were considering Big Cedar before Florida opened to Louisiana folk.
Her friends from Missouri said Big Cedar is a great weekend family getaway.
Silver Dollar City is reopening with Masks and limited capacity.
All water including pools in Missouri is cold for people from the deep south until the beginning of July.

We went to Big Cedar during thanksgiving and had a blast! A lot of the water sports were closed, but there was still plenty to do. We had a fire going nonstop in our cabin. If you’re a gofer, bring your clubs. There are great courses on property.
Top of the rock- play the par 3 course, have cocktails on the porch over looking table rock lake. Definitely, take the golf cart ride through the caves and surrounding area. That’s a family event.
I will say, it’s a Bass Pro owned resort so it has a bit of a Disney feel/price. However, everything is top notch.

The museum at the Ozarks College is great
The Hatchery by the dam
Ride around the dam and the backroads at night to overlook Branson
They rent pontoons on the lake
