BR to Denver I usually drive to Dallas and take 35 North to Salina Ks then West on 70. Mapquest is saying take 287 West out of Dallas through Amarillo etc. Anyone gone both ways and have opinion. FWIW I’m driving middle of September that way to Wyoming if anyone needs something hauled up or back. Just pay for some of my Diesel. **Legal items only**

I drove it two dozen times prior to 2001. I’ve taken every route. The best route by far was the latter route but continuing west through the tip of New Mexico at Clayton and then hitting 1-25 and going over the Raton Pass. Maybe it’s faster now to go north at Amarillo and into Oklahoma (?). Avoid Kansas at all costs was my motto. It added time and boredom back in the day.

Pretty much everyone from Dallas takes 287 to Amarillo then 87 to I-25 and over Raton Pass. I've done a route north through OKC and then to Dodge City, KS mainly because I needed to stop in OKC for work. Neither are exciting drives but driving through Kansas is boring AF.

We did Raton there and Kansas back. Raton was the better route.

Drove up there this summer. Raton is the way to go.

I’ve driven BR to Bozeman at least 100 times. The route you mentioned through Kansas is by far the fastest and safest.

Go through the raton pass. Don’t go through Kansas.

Do people still use Mapquest? I didn’t even know that site was still working.

Don’t go through Kansas it’s terrible. Do the one through Raton.

Lol I did that a couple of times. I also checked out the Capulin volcano. Not recommended.

I've driven it twice and both times we went through Dallas, Amarillo, Raton and then up to Colorado

I'll never drive it again though.

From OKC I've taken both 35N to Kansas and 40W over to Amarillo (so I haven't done the stretch of 287 between Dallas and Amarillo).

It may take longer to 287 and 40, but that way is more pleasant. The stretch of 35 from OKC to Salina and 70 from Salina to Denver is as boring of a drive as you can possibly have.

Most of the way up 287 through Amarillo is 4 lane. There's just a few miles between Dumas and Dalhart that are 2. The whole part of the New Mexico stretch is 4 lane to Raton and then up I-25.

I live southwest of Houston so I go through Waco then to Lubbock to Amarillo and avoid DFW, but from Baton Rouge, DFW is the best bet

The Amarillo route is the answer. 287 is practically an interstate. Just gotta slow up in the smaller towns. You get a town every 45 min-1 hr if you need to stop.

Dalhart to Raton is pretty remote but still 4 lanes. Then you're on I25.

287 is better by far.
