I'm traveling there this July and this show happens to be taking place. I'm wondering if anyone had any tips. Parking, setup, leave time, etc

Go to the Naval Aviation Museum on the base while there. Don't skip the bus tour of the planes parked outside. We had a great old Marine who narrated and gave info on several of the planes.

Climb the nearby lighthouse if it is open when you are there. Great views of the beach and airfield.

Looks like base access is currently limited to DoD ID holders and certain categories of vets. Due to Saudi terrorist attack a while back.

quote:

While National Naval Aviation Museum leaders hope the public can return to NAS Pensacola in time for Blue Angels practices this April, base officials said the Navy has not set a date for reopening to all visitors, following a deadly shooting three months ago.

Gilliam said he hoped the investigation was "near term" and would wrap up before the Blue Angels return from winter training in California. The elite fighter jet demonstration team is expected to return to Pensacola in the last week of March and is scheduled to have its first practice at the museum in April.

It’s a fantastic weekend. My family and I go every year. We like to charter a boat and either watch it in the sound or little Sabine (poor mans crab island)

They do a dress rehearsal on Friday and if the weather is good it’s the same show. We like to watch that on the beach by the Pensacola beach ball water tower.

Parking and traffic can be a nightmare. If possible, leave a vehicle at casino beach the night before and take a taxi early in the morning. If you park at the end, around chicken bone beach, you're looking at a 3+ hour drive to get off the island.

I've never watched it from the Gulf, but the sound isn't bad if you have a boat. The show is much better near the center though, I would recommend watching it from as close to the pier as you can get.

This forum is great because of people like you all. I knew none of this. Hopefully it opens up so we could visit.

PNAS Marina: if you have valid military ID.

They used to book boat trips for this purpose, too. Ymmv.

We were thinking of doing this and Uber back. What may me ponder this is because I watched a YouTube video of someone leaving at 3am just to get a good spot for the show

Depends on where you are staying. You can easily rent and travel from Orange beach as well. The hardest part is the long no wake zone areas in parts of the intercoastal

[DA CORONA EXCEPTED!]

We went late last year for a Blue Angels Alumni reunion. A friend of ours is retired USMC and flew "Bert" (the C-130 they use). We got to tour in their waiting area and some behind the scenes activities prior to the air show.

Had a GREAT time.

They have a very nice museum you can tour. Parking is plentiful on the base. They have a ton of food, drink and souvenir vendors. Lots of testosterone going on there!

Gulf Islands National Seashore is AMAZING!

Gulf Islands National Seashore preserves miles of beach. Touring Ft. Pickens is worth the trip out there alone. In fact, when were were there, people just set up their lawn chairs along the bay and watched the jets.

Great restaurant scene on the island and in town.

I grew up in Florida and hadn't been there in years. Was pleasantly surprised and actually now like it better than the Destin area.

Good Link!

If you aren't staying on the island then go to the Thursday or Friday practice shows.

Get out there before daylight if you go on Saturday.
Yes it's that big of a deal.

On another note: I really hope they open up the base soon. I'm headed that way in late June and want to catch a practice at the base.

They used to come to my town. Basically they try everything in the book to please the crowd with crazy stunts.

I don't have any tips.
