The fiancé and I are wanting to plan our honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast. What is the cheapest/quickest way to get there? Would be flying out of New Orleans.

Fly in to Naples, private car to your resort.

Trust me, you do not want to be the one driving along that coast.
1.) Pretty tight and dangerous.
2.) Too beautiful to miss by doing the driving.

You can also fly into/out of Rome.
And can either train to/from Naples, and get the taxi/car to your resort.
Or just straight private car from Rome to resort.

We didn't go directly to Amalfi, so I don't have experience with pricing directly to Rome or Naples. But we found some great deals:

Houston to London (3 nights in London)
Flight From London to Florence (4 nights in Florence)
Train from Florence to Naples + Private car from Naples to Positano (3 nights)
Private car back to Naples + Train to Rome (4 nights)
Rome to Houston

The train is easily the cheapest. Our travel agent (which I strongly recommend when going to so many places and arriving/leaving different cities) found us some great deals on the flights.

Flight to rome, train to Naples, car service with Rainbow Limos. None of it is really cheap though.

Flying to Rome, then train to Naples...and if you're hard-core cheap, you switch train lines to the CircumVesuviana regional commuter train and take it to the end at Sorrento, then take the SITA bus to Amalfi.

Here's a link to the CircumVesuviana wiki page, in English; you can buy tickets at the station, no need to buy in advance.
Note that this is a regional rail line, so you won't get big luggage storage racks, etc. It goes through every little suburb/town between the two, so it's poky slow and full of commuters, teenagers, graffiti, and grandmas...but you will get a "real" view of Naples/environs, if you are interested in that sort of thing. (I am.)

From Sorrento, you take the SITA public bus (year round, but shorter schedule in winter) or one of the ferry services (in warmer weather) that go to Amalfi. It's about 1 hr 45 minutes via bus from Sorrento to Amalfi. (I think the ferries are faster.) While it will be scenic, it is SERIOUSLY twisty and the big buses squeeze past each other on scarifying roads. The big attraction: it's less than 3 euros to go from Sorrento to Amalfi on the public bus. Again, no real luggage storage on the bus, so you can't be schlepping a Vuitton trunk to La Sirenuse, LOL.

Just a heads up that traveling trains with luggage is difficult enough. Those smaller ones and the bus would suck.

I dunno, I managed the CircumVesuviana with a small roller and better half had a backpack. But a huge, non rolling case would def present a problem. As long as you can fit it on your lap or directly in front of you, you'll be fine.

This whole thread brings up something I think about often: people who don't/won't travel because they think they can't afford it. They often won't consider doing things on the cheap, so they stay home rather than figure out how to see/do amazing things within their budget. Costeria Amalfitana is worth a schleppy train & bus ride, if that fits the budget. Don't stay home simply b/c you don't have private driver money.

This is what I did as well. Pretty sure I got it from your thread about your trip to Italy

Very stress free and Rainbow limos was legit. Although its a little pricey, I figured it was well worth the extra cost over having to rely on public transportation, etc.

Well, my female self managed to schlep my own bag. Even on my honeymoon (which involved public transit from an airport and back, and yet somehow we're still married years later). LOL. I'm happy to take public transit, carry my own bag, and then spend my money on Michelin stars. Chacun a son gout.

We spent a week in Positano in 2014. We flew in to Naples and arranged transportation to our hotel through transferelax.com. It was about 90 euros and well worth it. The driver was the owner's father and he was waiting for us with a sign when we got off the plane. The Amalfi Coast is a spectacularly beautiful place and is perfect for a honeymoon.

Thanks for all the advice. I managed to find round trip flights for both of us to Rome fore right over $1,500. Like some mentioned above, i think we will plan to take the train into Salerno, and take a ferry/bus to whatever town we end up staying in.

This will be my first trip out of the country with the exception of some Caribbean islands. How expensive are the coastal towns? (Positano, Amalfi, San Cosma, Minori,..etc)

Once on the coast is it easy to travel from town to town? Right now we are thinking about possibly hoping from town to town on the coast. Or just staying at one coastal town and then spending a night or two in rome and naples.

When we left the Amalfi Coast we took the train from Naples to Rome. It was fast and easy. You can do the round trip. If you fly in and out of Rome you can the the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale and back. As for another city for the extra days, Rome is fantastic, but I would not forgo nights on the AC to stay in Naples. As for a home base, my 1st choice would be Positano. It is a gorgeous place with many great restaurants, from Michelin starred places to family run pizza joints. From the beach you can catch the ferry to the other towns for day trips. We went to Capri, Ravello and the Town of Amalfi. In Positano we stayed at the Villa Gabrisa Hotel. It is a small B&B type of place. They have 3 rooms on the second floor with private 24' x 24' terraces overlooking the Mediterranean. It is not super expensive because it is a little ways up the hill from the beach and the center of town. We spent our 30th anniversary there. I can think of worse places to spend a honeymoon.

The coastal towns aren't exceptionally expensive, for Italy. Of course, the high end hotels (Villa Cimbrone, La Sirenuse) are quite spendy, but most of the towns have spots frequented by locals unmarred by the tourist markup.

Posi makes a lovely base. But Amalfi is quite close to Ravello & Minori, so if you aren't driving yourself or hiring a driver, you can actually walk (steep hill climb) on trails between these three. Awesome views over the lemon groves and the sea...a fantastic way to burn off those pasta calories. Here's a WaPo article on hiking the Amalfi Coast: LINK

In the summer, the town-hopping coastal hydrofoil ferries are the way to go: faster, less motion-sickness-inducing, and a better view than the SITA buses. The ferry from Salerno to Amalfi is 45 minutes, cost is 8 euro. Easy peasy.
