Is it Chase Sapphire? Or one of the Airline deals?

I know we have a credit card discussion on the Money Talks but this one can be specifically for travel.

United Chase for me, but I live in Houston and it’s a bigtime hub for United.

It’s Chase Sapphire Reserve for me, based on the flexibility of UR points (transferable to a slew of diff airlines from British Air to Southwest) and the array of travel insurance coverage on all travel purchases made with the card. Trip cancellation and interruption insurance, emergency roadside assistance, rental car coverage, baggage delay, lost luggage, medical and dental emergencies, etc. CSR also covers TSA Global entry fees once every 5 years.

If your travel is primarily international, it’s an excellent card to carry.

The best all around card is the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card. $150 net annual fee is easily covered by the 50% bonus when using points (I think $6k in annual spend is the breakeven point between CSR and the $95 Sapphire Preferred). You can pair that card with the no-fee Freedom and Freedom Unlimited so you will never get less than 1.5x points per purchase (points from those cards transfer cover to the CSR bucket to get the 50% bonus).

Amex Platinum is also a no brainer is you use Uber one or twice a month. $550 annual prepays $200 travel credits (I buy Delta gift cards), $200 Uber, and $100 Saks leaving $50 net fee. The Delta Lounge access is worth that alone not to mention all the other perks.

SW and Delta cards are decent too with the right signup bonus and if you use the airline regularly.

Best card will vary depending on someone’s travel habits/needs (eg. lots of people love the southwest card, and rightfully so, but if SW doesn’t serve your local airport it’s kinda pointless).

As others have mentioned, the sapphire reserve card is excellent for general use.

Also, look at what airline/hotels you travel most with and evaluate their card. I used to fly virgin america all the time, and despite their card not being very popular, it was perfect for me.

I've enjoyed the AMEX platinum, used the companion pass already and the first bag check free has been used so many times it is nice. Sadly I don't fly enough or spend enough to move up. Like this year I'll finish 16 flights including 1 overseas and won't have enough miles/mq's

That sounds like the Delta Amex Platinum. The regular Amex Platinum doesn’t have Delta specific perks other than the lounge access and general airline credits, but it’s a great card with an occasional 100k signup. I put very little spend on it as it’s mostly 1x points (I mainly put on larger purchases due to the extended warranty perk), but for $50 net per year there is a ton of value. The value is very dependent on how you value the Uber credit.

It is definitely worth approximating your dining spend as well as your travel spend. Also, international or domestic travel?

If you go out to eat a lot, I agree with others that the Chase Sapphire Reserve can't be beat. If you already have a card for dining or just don't go out to eat a lot, a co-branded card of your airline of choice or airline with a hub near to you is likely the best route to go.

Yeah Delta Platinum card and I use the uber credit easily a month. Usually 3-5 rides a month easily. I also have the AMEX Gold. I need to combine the points on both

It depends on your lifestyle. Pick a perk and stick with it is the best advice. Don’t go generic and grab a card that gives a bunch of rewards. You get the most bang for your buck if you grab a hotel or airline or whatever and load up on that. Free hotels forever!!
