Within the U.S. please. Where should I go to avoid this Louisiana heat, somewhere north right? I’d love to be outdoors riding horses, hiking, swimming and eating outside. I love scenic views and history too. TIA

Up in Frisco, CO right now. Beautiful weather, lows in the low 50s and highs in mid 70s. Dillon Lake/Reservoir has kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, etc. Incredible system of bike paths connect all the towns and ski resorts in the area and hiking paths for all levels. Plenty of restaurants and breweries here with outdoor seating.

If you have your passport why not Canada? Great time to explore Quebec, Vancouver, etc.

But yeah obviously just go north and high elevations.

Seattle and Portland, Vancouver. Maine and the northeast, not like the guy on the OT that said Indianapolis is northeast.

I’m jealous
Would going to the Ozarks be a decent spot to get out of the heat?
How long of a drive from Nola would I be looking at?

1) Colorado (two day drive or 2:20 hr flight)
Cheapest way to do it (and I’ve done this all summer) is to fly to Denver from MSY on Frontier then use whatever method you prefer to find a campground at 9,000 feet or higher. It’s been about 40 degrees every morning I’ve camped. The high is usually 75 around 9-10k feet.
Going back next week!

2) Tenn/North Carolina (10-12 hr drive):
As of last week Mt. LeConte in Tennessee had not yet reached 76 degrees this year. Highest temp was 75.4 last I checked with some recent lows in the upper 40s! In addition: see Roan Mt. area
Just a day’s drive away!
2a) Cooler spots in NC with some civilization that are fairly high with quick access to higher areas are Bryson City, Waynesville, Boone, Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Blowing Rock, Spruce Pine.
**All lower elevations in NC, TN, and even CO will be balls hot. So camp or find a cabin!

3) Northern GA
Just 9 hours away with many 4,000 ft peaks (still warm during the afternoon hours)

4) Arkansas:
You will get SOME morning temp relief (60s) as close as Mena, Arkansas (skyline drive is at 2,400 ft). Just under 7 hours from Baton Rouge!!
Other areas like the Boston Mts and Buffalo National River are nice too...but farther away.

5) Entire West Coast
Pros: Usually does not exceed 70 on the coast
Beautiful
Cons: $$$

If you’re into camping search “camping” or “campground” on Google Maps and pick one in the mountains. Works every time.

Mena, AR is your best bet (see above)
There’s also that state park in Alabama near Anniston that is actually higher. I think it’s close to 2,700 feet (but again, mornings will be coolish then HOT!)

Almost the entire state is under stage 2 fire ban which means no campfires, not even in the metal ring. I think the very north of the state is the only place not on stage 2. Camping without a fire sucks.

I just found out that Chaffee County lifted their fireban.

No kidding. We camped above 10,000 ft in White River National Forest without a fire!
Made the 3 1/2 drive to Routt the week after so we could have a fire. Worth it.

That’s essentially what I do. Can’t sleep for shite anyway so I’m usually out of that thing by 5:00 AM.
Girlfriend would sleep until 9:30 if I let her!!

But, grilling hot dogs>>>>boiling hot dogs
Beer by a fire>>>>>beer without a fire

The wife and I just got back from New England and the weather was amazing. Flew to Boston, stayed 2 nights then rented a car. Drove to Newport, Rhode Island, Jackson, New Hampshire (Mt. Washington was great) and Portland, Maine. We went to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park in Utah last summer and the weather was great there too.

Think it depends where in Maine. Mosquitoes are a pretty big issue.

No doubt. Just depends what you’re doing. If you’re putting in miles, doesn’t matter as much. If you’re just taking it easy, fires are almost required.

Newport, Rhode Island. Do the mansion tours and Cliff Walk. Really cool, nice people and historic. I liked it way better than I thought I would. Just did Bar Harbor Maine last year. Ok, but preferred Newport.
