Flying to Spokane then driving to Glacier NP for a few days in August, looking at Columbia Falls and Whitefish. Any other recs in places to stay? Or must do’s in either of those ? Also is Coeur D’lene worth staying a there on the way back to Spokane?

Columbia Falls is closer but not much of a town. We stayed at the TownePlace Suites in Whitefish last year. Quite a few good restaurants in Whitefish. Taking the chairlift to the top of Whitefish Mtn Resort provides a great view of the entire area. Lake McDonald is very nice. We also drove around Flathead Lake one day. LINK to local webcams

You could try a cabin in or near the park

Staying at Whitefish Mountain Resort in a few weeks. It's not as close as some of the other options, but considering price/location/things outside of the park, it seemed like the best option for us. We'll see.

stayed here back in july of 2018: spoon lake vrbo
super close to the west entrance to the park, and not too bad to get around to the other side if you want to do the hikes that start on the Many Glacier/St. Mary side. Can't say enough of this place- close enough to town/groceries/bars/restaurants/whitefish/columbia falls/kalispell/flathead lake, but still completely secluded and a perfect lake to kayak/paddleboard around. It is also super refreshing to take a dip in the lake after a long day of hiking.
its the bottom floor of a 3-floor cabin- the owner sometimes occupies the top two floors but we had the place to ourselves the whole time we were there. had everything we needed and was simply fantastic.
