We will be within walking distance from the stadium, hoping to find an lsu friendly bar near by. Suggestions appreciated.

The LSU alumni bar is called the Rustic Tap. That's where we'll be posted up. But I'm pretty sure for this game they're selling tickets to get in - not sure if that's sold out or even correct. I'd check the LSU Alumni Austin facebook page.
Also, there's a tailgate being hosted by the alumni association - again tickets are required and not sure if it sold out.
Edit: the tickets for the Rustic Tap will allow you to skip the line to get in and reserves you a seat at the bar, but it doesn't look like you need tickets to actually get in. But it's only $15 so if that's not sold out I'd grab a ticket.

Rustic Tap, no question. Shoal Creek is a venerable LSU place but the clientele tends to be older and it's not really a party atmosphere. Do not waste your time with Lavaca Street Bar. They are not an LSU Bar and do not prioritize LSU above everyone else like Rustic Tap and Shoal Creek.

I've heard shoal Creek alot. We may try that and I believe it's within walking distance from the hotel. Thanks

Can take a scooter and hit them all. I’d say:
Rustic Tap - Across street is Woodrow’s and Buford’s. Plenty TVs around.
Shoal Creek will be a bit more on its own.

Daggum, these are all sold out.
Is there a separate Alumni Association tailgate or is the Rustic Tap it?
I can't find information on the Alumni Association tailgate anywhere.(and yes I am a member)

TBH I don't really know. My wife and I are flying in for the game, and my sister lives in Austin so she set up all of it for us. She just let us know about the tickets before they went on sale and asked if we were interested so we jumped all over them.

Shiner's Saloon. We were going to watch there but our friend was able to set us up with some tickets so we will be at the game instead.
ETA: I lived in Austin until fairly recently and that was the spot when I left...I'm pretty sure the die-hards still gather at Shiner's but don't quote me on that. I just know that the majority moved from Lavaca Street several years ago. Shoal Creek has tiny TVs and the vibe isn't all that fun. Haven't heard anything about Rustic Tap being the spot unless they're just doing it for that particular game since they know there will be a ton of visitors in town for it. My guess is that they're doing exactly that since they're "selling tickets"...any bar that usually packs itself with LSU fans won't have to do that.

Rustic Nail works for us even if it’s not the traditional spot, if for no other reason than because it’s around the corner from our apartment. I honestly am not knowledgeable on the Austin scene, just wanted to be helpful.
OP, listen to L Boogie. She knows her stuff.

Any place you choose will be a good one...energy will be great even if it's full of Longhorn fans. Austin is so much fun. We'll do our best to meet you for a drink or a taco before we head to the game.

Trust me when I say that Rustic tap is where the younger LSU alumni watch all the games now
If you’re over 35 it may be a different story. But most anyone who has graduated recently goes there.

I'm actually 35, sooo...
Rustic Tap is a great bar, I've got a friend who works there. I've just never heard of it being an LSU bar and the fact that they're charging a cover makes me think that they are not used to bringing in large numbers of LSU fans...otherwise they wouldn't bother.
Not disagreeing with you since, like I said, I haven't lived there in two years. Good spot. Shiner's is also a good spot. Sounds like both will have a crowd and can cater to fans on different areas of downtown

They hit capacity on Saturdays regardless of the lsu game. Ut fans like it too. Austin isn’t a big sports town either, some people just trying to party on a Saturday.
The fire marshal checks in on busy days. They will 100% hit capacity and you will he left scrambling. Plan accordingly.
I have been going to the hoffbrau for a long time.
