There was a post on the OT board here and it sparked this. What is the Worst and the Best vacation/Trip you have ever been on. And a quick explanation why
Worst Trip - Atlantis in the Bahamas. I took my family (Wife and two teenage sons) to Atlantis in 2013. I have been to a lot of other places in the Caribbean (Mostly All-Inclusives) and this place was out of sight expensive. Not just expensive but expensive for what you get. Nothing is included. You pay extra for Wifi, use of the gym, etc. The food on the resort is at a price that you could not possibly eat there.
We ended up bringing in some food for breakfast and lunch then going off the resort for dinner. Plus, it was over crowded and just plain fricked up. Never again
Best Trip - Turks and Caicos - I have been on a lot of beach vacations and all of them for the most part has been fantastic. This trip was just my wife and I and we had a blast in T&C Grace bay. Rented a place. Hired a chief and just relaxed. It was a big anniversary trip for us which was part of the fun. Having someone shop and cook for us was probably what pushed it ahead of the numerous all-inclusive we have visited.

I've never understood the appeal of this place.

I went there for my kids. We wanted to take them somewhere they would have a blast. I would not go there with just my wife. All the water slides, park, pools, ocean etc. They enjoyed it but it was a major inconvenience. And it was expensive as shite. $30/day for Wifi, $70 for the week to use the gym after I paid 7K for a room there. The "Family" buffet was about $60 a head for dinner and $50 a head for breakfast. No way I was going to pay that for my kids to grab some chicken fingers off a buffet.
They needled and picked at you till you just couldnt have a good time.

It just seems to me like it's got all the charm of a carnival cruise without the benefit of actually going anywhere else. Plus, from what you're telling me, for about 5 times the cost.

Not sure if it counts because it's work related but I've worked in about 5 countries in west africa if I never went back I would be happy. Getting off the plane in Lagos Nigeria is about the worst feeling I've had in the world.

Worst-Carnival Cruise to Key West and Cozumel. The ship was crowded, the food sucked, and I was sick most of the time. Key West was ok but Cozumel seemed dangerous.
Best- Las Vegas. We stayed at the Bellagio for our honeymoon and had a blast. It didn't hurt that we both were winning the whole trip.
Surprisingly Washington DC. We stayed in Alexandria ( which I highly recommend) and would see the sights during the day(museums, monuments, zoo, etc) and have great meals in Alexandria at night. Since our hotel was near the metro we didn't even need a car.

Best Trip: Difficult to say, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say a trip to Australia in 2014. Sydney (Rugby, Opera House/Harbor Bridge), to Melbourne(Friends, Chloe, Aussie Football, Gaol), up to Jenolan Caves/Blue Mountains, up to Newcastle area/Hunter Valley and wineries, breweries, zoos, Nelson's bay.
It was two weeks traveling one of the most beautiful places with two great friends/hosts (no room & board charges!). Hated to come home.
Best Trip II--Electric Boogaloo Can't leave out my trip to Munich/Prague/Budapest/Bratislava/Vienna/Salzburg in 2013. Met the most amazing people, some of whom I'm still friends with (even visited a couple in Australia the following year). Dachau. Drank 31 different kinds of bier in 9 days. Birthplace of Mozart. Vienna. Amazing.
Worst Trip: Flew to Vegas on Dec. 31 2003. 3 days later got married to a Succubus by an Elvis impersonator at the Viva Las Vegas wedding chapel. Long story short, I filed for divorce the week after Alexis Serna clanked a bunch of kicks off the uprights in Tiger Stadium.
Good times.

Worst - Sea Island. Got food poisoning from a bad shrimp salad at lunch on Day 1. Spent the rest of the vacation in bed hating life. Everyone else on the trip had a great time, though, so I'm all for trying again.
Best - Italy. Rome to Florence to Venice with day trips to Orvieto and Sienna. Only way it could have gone better is if the entire country wasn't full of North African refugees trying to sell selfie sticks on every corner. I don't think I will ever visit anywhere as amazing as Venice for the rest of my life. It helped that it was sunny and in the low 70s the entire time I was there.

Best - Tour of Italy (Naples, Rome, Venice, Tuscany)
Worst - Washington DC. It reminds me how much this country is broken and divided. It is a shell of its former self.

Best Trip - Hard to choose. So I'm going to choose 2. Last year I did a week in Japan (Tokyo/Kyoto). This year I did 9 days in Australia (Uluru, Melbourne, Cairns, Sydney). Both of these were with just me and one other person. Traveling for a longer period with a small group is awesome. You get so much done.
Worst Trip - I haven't had any particularly bad trips. I love traveling and get out of Dallas as often as I possibly can. The worst trip if I had to pick one was probably San Pedro, Belize. The only reason I pick this one is because of the smell. We went in the Summer of 2015. Seaweed was really bad that year. Smelled terrible. But other than that, it was a fun time.

It was bad everywhere in the Caribbean in 2015. They were using tractors in Punta cana and Mexico to get rid of it non stop. They were taking it away and I have no idea what these countries did with that amount of sea weed once they removed it from the beaches

Trick question , sorry there is no such thing as a bad vacation. I will take my worst vacation and put it against my best work day any day and there's no comparison.

Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana, EG. All the others at least had good people. Everyone in Nigeria was trying to pull one over on you. Customs agents would want stuff, want you to bring them cell phones from the US, try to take your clothes. Crap like that every time i flew in or out.

Best - study abroad program in london, got to hit Rome, Paris, Brussels for weekend trips as well. Best time of my life
Worst - any all inclusive I've been to - 2 in Cabo, 1 in Tulum. They are the worst, I'd rather go anywhere else but. Keep saying I'll neve go again but the bachelor parties and weddings keep popping up
