Family trip to Austin this summer to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday.

Can anyone recommend some good local restaurants that would comfortably accommodate about 16 people for dinner? Preferably a restaurant that has a private room you can reserve, but isn't exactly necessary.

I've only been to Austin twice myself, so I don't have that much experience with the city. My wife and I went to a few good restaurants but they were on the smaller side. Also, Austin is known for it's BBQ, correct? Perhaps I can bring my family to some good BBQ restaurant.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Probably the best reply so far. They have large tables that can accommodate your party. May have to wait but pack an ice chest, drink some beer, listen to music.

Food isn't bad either.

Matt's El Rancho is probably a good bet for a group that size.

Here is Justine’s

Went to check out this place over Labor Day weekend. Thanks to this very board, I enjoyed quite an awesome meal in an awesome town. The patio was fun and vibrant with misters to make the humidity tolerable. The wait stuff was textbook Austin...lots of tattoos, funky outfits, odd shoes and the laid back personalities to match. Everything about this place is great. I would highly recommend giving it a shot and can say that I will be back next time I'm in Austin.

They have their usual menu and a daily one to choose from...we got some from both. Pics below.

We had the Tartare and the Escargot for appetizers. Food was great!

For entrees, I got the venison and the Mrs. (no pics) got the duck confit. Both were VERY delicious and cooked just right. Full of flavor. ....and yes,the duck was gone before I knew it, so no pic.

The "backyard" of this place has some bizarre things, as expected. A neon pagoda lights up the entire area and from would I saw was a sitting/smoking area for the patrons. Then there was this wildlife room with some funky shite in it. These 2 kiddos were in there most of the night, so I just snapped a pic with them in it. There is also one of those "old time photos" truck there (like many theme parks have), but we didn't wait in line to get one taken.

Justine's is my favorite place here. It would be a nightmare for a party of his size however.

Lonesome Dove can accommodate you in a private room with a great food experience. It is a little pricey, so I don't know your budget. It is owned by Tim Love from the Food Network.

Lonesome Dove
Terry Blacks BBQ

Fareground - This is basically a food court downtown but with good restaurants. Plenty of seating.

Via313 - Pizza
Eberly
Lambert’s
Hanks - brunch
Sour Duck - brunch

Emmer & Rye - Best meal in Austin. Small. You’d need to go in shifts of four.

This is what everyone needs to do for just about anywhere they plan to travel in the U.S. and Mexico. There are so many great threads about major U.S. cities (i.e. Chicago, NY, SF) and tourist destinations (i.e. Isla Mujeres).

we have tried to capture the threads which offer trip reviews and photo journals in the sticky, but I agree there are many more threads to be found on Google from this site that we haven’t stickied
