Wow. Just left NSSHP. Ridiculous! Long lines at every attraction the entire time. The 11:15 parade was as packed as a mid day parade! Never again

Fatlinburg says, “hold my beer.”

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is a Mecca for the morbidly obese.

I'm actually surprised you guys are having this problem in October. October is usually a pretty slow month at Disney.

Let me also say, the character lines are absurd. Disney sucks at it, completely terrible. There's absolutely no reason why you should wait 30 minutes to get a picture with a character at Disney. Not to mention I've waited well over 45 mins I don't even know I don't keep track. But I've been in line for multiple water breaks. Its one person dressed in a costume. It would cost Disney nothing to double the amount of characters they had out.

I have yet to experience anything in life as lame as groups of adults having conversations with characters like they are the real thing.
It's because Disney is very careful that the kids do not see the same character in two places. So, putting another one out would take away the magic from the children.

I understand that’s their reason, but it’s not an excuse and easily avoidable by Disney. I don’t know if they use the rule as only one character out at all locations? I mean do they only have one Mickey out worldwide even Paris and china? There’s 11 princesses Google says, probably 100+ characters if not more right? At any given time how many are out at Magic kingdom? Because they could easily double it.

I think there are two reasons - a cynical one and a possible realistic one.

Cynical - they are just cheap, why spend more money when they don't have to? Also, keeping crowds in line is a means of capacity control.

Realistic - Imagine you are a 7 year old girl. You are in line to see Belle. They sell Belle is going on a break. 10 seconds later, a new Belle comes out. You might get a bit suspicious that "it's not the real Belle".

If Disney loses the little kids' ability to believe... they are in trouble.

Just go do a character meal if you don't want to wait in the lines for characters.

I'm most amused by the people who go to Disney over and over, only exposing themselves and their kids to the concrete and steel worlds of Orlando.

I know a chick that's been there 40 something times.

I get that you have to do them once or twice, but over and over?

You went to Disney when they had multiple special events going on and complained about lines? Disney is great if you plan accordingly. Doesn’t sound like you have.

Been here since Wednesday, the crowds at every park is ridiculous!!!
We cane in July and I found there were less people and strollers than this past week.
Also went to the NSSHP and that was a waste of money and will probably never do a extra party again.

Overall the trip wasn’t that bad and it helps to go to Parks right when they open for magic hours and get a lot of stuff done before the regular public comes in.

I will probably be back with the next year or two

It’s October. That’s the issue with Disney, is people expect spring break, summer, and Christmas to be the busy times. Not October. You are certainly right and there are certainly calendars online that show how busy the parks are, but I’ve found those largely unreliable in the off season. Generally speaking though the average Disney customer is not a hardcore Disney planner that knows when to go. Just because Epcot has Food and Wine doesn’t mean the rest of the parks are going to be busy also.

I haven't been to NSSHP in 12 years, but the lines were a lot smaller then than they were during the day. I guess that's changed.

I went on Halloween night last year and the lines weren’t all that bad.

It's fall break, people travel heavily that week.

Certainly, the ones that get fall break. My kids don't. I'd bet 60% or more of the south doesn't get a fall break.

ETA: Also, we in the south always go off of our own schedule. Well Texas schools start on Labor day the end of August, Tennessee starts late July or first week of Aug. Schedules vary greatly.

I'm also not sure what percentage of Disney is even the south? Gotta figure that a good chunk is from the Northeast? Then you have the midwest, and finally international. I'd bet southerners make up something like 25% of Disney customers only.

It’s pretty common up north and falls around Columbus Day. You will definitely see a lot more crowds around the two weeks surrounding Columbus Day weekend. Especially Columbus Day week.

It’s gotten a lot more popular since high schools switched to more semester style schedules like colleges.

Disney world now is driven by international travel which I haven’t figured out why yet. Americans don’t fill the parks, the overseas crowd does. In the summer it’s South America and fall is Europeans on holiday. It’s really amazing.

And the oversold the party this year by offering Florida residents “annual passes” at pretty cheap rates. So if hard tickets sell out still have thousands more passes out there. We did it last year and I said never again. Can’t imagine this year.
