We are going to Asheville in about a week and daughter is turning 18. I need suggestions on a nice restaurant to take her too as well as some other possible good places. We are staying in Marshall.

I love The Red Ginger in the city center.

Great Bao Buns.

Look at Curate for a nice dinner or lunch.

I did see that they’re one of the higher ranked places.

Tupelo Honey for breakfast. Steak and eggs are awesome.

Early Girl Eatery or Sunny Point for breakfast

Breakfast on the Terrace at Grove Park Inn (pricey, but great food and fabulous view).

White Duck Tacos for lunch.

Farm Burger (downtown location) for best burgers in town.

We ate at Curate a few years ago (on this boards rec) and it was fantastic. Made a reservation for early August, it seems they are still being pretty strict on their mask policy if that sorta thing bothers you. From what I can tell, they require you to wear a mask unless you are actively eating and will ask you to leave if you don't comply. I don't particularly care for wearing a mask or being treated like a child so I booked Forestry Camp as a backup. I'd be interested to know about anyone's experience there.

It's a neat place in an interesting setting, but the food didn't blow me away. Had a beet salad, whole roasted trout, some sort of mushroom gnocchi. Nice selection of Burial beers of course. Had reservations and did the upstairs. Downstairs more casual/communal, but I think a lot of the same food. If I went back, I'd probably just go down there, but wouldn't dissuade you from eating upstairs.

Sort of typical Ashevilley 'let me try to show you how much I know and am into all this shite' over the top service. Didn't bother me, but my wife a bit.

Chestnut is just down the street from Curate and is a local place that doesn’t get a ton of pub like Curate but it is good.

NC PBS episode about Mars Hill

Marshall is about 20 minutes from Mars Hill. This is a NC Weekend Now short video about a burger & beer place in MH. FYI, thrre is a 30 sec ad at the beginning.

The Moose Cafe is out of town by the Farmers Market and is good place for breakfast.

The Grove Park Inn restaurant is a high end place for dinner. It’s pricey though.

I’m here now, and pleased to say that it’s near pre-COVID times. I come here 6-8 times a year for work and fun.

Apollo Flame Bistro is a no frills at all Greek/Italian place with good food. The Greek dressing is really good.

Hillman Brewery in Biltmore area is another non tourist infested place with good beer and good bar food.

For hikes.. my personal favorite is Black Balsam but Mt Pisgah on a clear day is also good.

Despite the website name this is great info Romantic Asheville

If the OP is going to Asheville in a week, he won’t be getting in to Curate. Booked up way out is the usual experience these days. Great recommendation though.

I'm heading to Asheville next week - flying into Greenville airport. Partial hijack, but any idea if Uber/Lyft is a legitimate option to get from GSP to downtown Asheville? Never done an Uber that long before.
