Any St Francisville people on here? Need suggestion
I need to take gf (no pics)for a get away this weekend.
Wanted something more low key than we usually do. She'd appareciate a nice little romantic christmassy weekend.

Any suggestions on a cozy upper end bed and breakfast?
Also is there any nice restaurants there?

TIA for the advice.

the francis might be one of my favorite places to eat at. The food is just solid every single time I drive there to eat.

Magnolia cafe is another place to eat

THey were closed last time we went but def. want to walk around the Imahara Botanical Garden. Looks pretty bad ass

Check out AirBnb. There were some swanky "camps" up for a weekend rental the last time I checked.

A woodsy weekend in a log cabin sounds pretty good to me right now.

Take her to the Myrtles. Get a room for the night. Maybe you will end up having a 3-some with the ghost.

I’d look at the Alluvian in Greenwood, MS.

Or find a BnB in Natchitoches.

Great side trip for dinner is Ma Mamas Kitchen in New Roads, just across the bridge. Looks and feels more high end than the name implies. It keeps impressing me. Also, a second vote for The Francis.

Never been, but have been badgered to try Village Studios BNB, near Jackson LA. Its website says a lot of film folks cavorted here, and where Paul Newman and Joannne Woodward met and fell in love. Seems to be a regular go-to for filmm folks in the area. Hype yes, but the pics make it worth a spin next time I need something off the beaten path.

Here's my post from your thread on the FDB.You'll have to go to my original post for the links.

quote:

I love staying at the cottages at Butler Greenwood. It's not really a B&B in that there really isn't a breakfast. I think she puts some croissants, butter and jelly in the cottages. You can stay in the cottages with 2 bedrooms and only pay for the 1 bedroom if you don't use the second bedroom or bath. I love the Old Kitchen. I've been in Chase's cottage, but haven't stayed in it. I've actually been in all of them, but tend to go back to the Old Kitchen. The Cook's Cottage is a neat place too. I've stayed in the Pool Pavilion and Dovecote. I think I stayed in the Treehouse once.

In my experience, this place is always pretty full unless you call pretty far in advance or someone cancels.

The owner has a fascinating story. She married the retired warden of Angola with whom she worked on some books. When she decided it wasn't going to work out, he didn't take it very well and came back to the main house to talk with her during the daytime and shot her while she was sitting across from him in the sun room. She wrote a book about it. It's a quick interesting read. LINK

I wasn't aware of the story when I first stayed there, but saw it mentioned in one of the guest books. Got the book and read it before I stayed there again. Had an interesting discussion with her about it all. At the time, he was in Angola and was still writing to her. She would actually write him back. She told me that was because as long as he was writing her, she knew where he was and what he was thinking. He died not too long after, I believe. She's quite a character and has quite a life.
