We are going to either Aspen or Steamboat in December. I thought we were set on Aspen, but now she's suggesting steamboat.
We are looking for a place with some decent night life and would like to be within walking distance to shops and food.
In Steamboat, I'm guessing most of what we are looking for would be located near the lifts. Would it be better to stay near the lifts or more towards town?
Skiing isn't a major concern for us. My wife doesn't ski, I'll snowboard a little but not basing the entire trip around it.

TIA

Went in college about 13 years ago, wasn't much of a nightlife then. We stayed around the mountain/lifts but they had a couple of bars.

If you arent into skiing I would pick somewhere a little further out.

Wolf Creek or Silverton comes to mind.

Otherwise prepare to pay out thy arse not to ski.

Steamboat is better powder, but I'm not sure it'll be much better in December.

Aspen is definitely better shops and food.

I'm not sure either place has much in the way of nighlife since it's really fricking cold at night in the Rockies.

Steamboat is one of my favorite places for skiing.

If not into the skiing, there will be more activity in other places.

I love the steamboat. The Catfish Diane is legit. Anybody have the recipe for their carrots?

All ski towns have great nightlife. I'd say Aspen would have the edge as far as nightlife goes and Steamboat is more of a natural setting plus its way out there. I'd go to Aspen first its really a one-of-a-kind place. Had some of the best times of my life there.

Stay in the village (near lifts) if you go to Steamboat. You'll pretty much have everything you need. Food, nightlife, shopping, etc.

Downtown is nice, but there's not a whole lot to do there except for a few restaurants.

I highly recommend Ore House at Pine Grove. Very good steak house on the suttle route.

Steamboat is my favorite ski resort behind Whistler/Blackcomb.

Steamboat is a picturesque Colorado mountain town. It's awesome. Plus they have the "James Brown Soul Center of the Universe" bridge....I kid you not

Strawberry hot springs. 3 different temp pools and no artificial light after dark.

Great place to bring the missus

Been to aspen 3 times and steamboat 4. They are our favorite ski towns.

Post this on the Travel board and you will get a response from a TD poster who lives there in Steamboat and can tell you all about it

All I know is that I went to a bar that was upstairs in some little strip of shops. Me and my friends started getting fricked with by some locals that kept calling us "tourons" or some shite. After the shite talking got out of hand, we got into an all out brawl in that place. It started inside but somehow ended up outside still fighting. The cops eventually showed up and out of 8 or so people fighting, I was the only one handcuffed and put in a car. The staff at the bar told the cops that those guys are always messing with the tourist and that it was past time they got their asses kicked. The cops let us gp but told us not to go back to that bar during our trip. Good times!!

That's what I was going to say. It's by far the easiest ski resort to get to, has better night life and better and more skiing options. I really need to move there soon.
