Hello Everyone. My family (wife and teen age children) and I have an event in Chicago one weekend, followed by another one in Houston the next weekend. We are driving, and looking for fun things to do between Chicago and Houston Monday through Friday.
Currently considering Branson or Eureka Springs.
Where would you go? Recommendations?
Thanks.....

CHI to STL is 5 hours ... eat good groceries, catch a BB game if the Cards are in town, visit the arch and go inside
STL to Memphis is 4.5 hrs .... visit Peabody Hotel (ducks), BBQ, Beale Street, visit Graceland, Sun Studios
Memphis to DAL is 7 hrs ... Rangers BB game, great food, SeaLife Aquarium, LegoLand, JFK Book Depository tour
then drive to 4 hrs HOU

Thanks for the suggestions Got Blaze. The kids have their hopes up for lakes, mountains, amusement parks, etc. But I am now checking out STL, Memphis, and Dallas to see what else is there. We have been to Memphis and done Graceland and Beale St. My wife and I did that one without the kids, had a great time.

If you can detour to one or both of these, I HIGHLY recommend it:
- Scenic Hwy. 7 in Arkansas, from Bull Shoals Lake / Diamond City to either Russellville or Hot Springs (the northern end is not all that far from Branson)
- Talimena Scenic Drive (Byway) from Mena, Arkansas to Talihina, Oklahoma - runs through the highest range between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains!
You will thank me, if you take one (or both) of these!

I’d look at St Louis (seems like a no brainer) then Hot Springs or something in that area. Breaks the drive into thirds.
And lots of outdoors stuff to do around Hot Springs. Maybe rent a houseboat? Not sure of the lake but I saw something on line not long ago when looking for stuff to do within an easy drive of Little Rock.

I thought I would take a few minutes to share info on this trip just in case anyone else is looking for advice on travel to these areas.
We ended up spending most of the week in Branson. We didnt do much on Monday and Friday, they were primarily driving days. We definitely had a great time. Beautiful scenery for us flat-landers. Some of the highlights:
- stayed in a condo with a lake view at Indian Point (very close to Silver Dollar City)
- spent 1 full day in Silver Dollar City...lots of fun, several cool roller coasters, great shows, and the Marvel Cavern tour inside the park was fun and memorable.
- attended the Dixie Stampede one evening in Branson. Lots of fun, entertaining, great variety, and good food.
- went to see Rick Thomas, an "Illusionist". It was a great show. Rick works very hard and puts alot into the show. Very enjoyable experience, and lasted longer than I had expected, and that was a good thing. One of my sons is really into this stuff, the whole family enjoyed the show.
- rented a pontoon on Table Rock Lake and spent half a day boating, swimming, and jumping off of bluffs. Boated our way into Northern Arkansas, lots of beautiful scenery, cliffs, mountain views, etc.
- spent a few hours on the main strip. My wife and daughters went to the Titanic Museum while me and the boys went and rode go-karts and other "guy stuff".
- spent a few hours at Branson landing...this was ok, but not great. Lots of typical shops and restaurants. Not a bad experience, but not one of our favorites either.
While in Chicago, we did the Navy Pier, Willis Tower, and the architectural boat tour in downtown Chicago. The boat tour was easily the highlight of the trip...the kids thought so too.
thanks again for the help and advice. we really only had 3 full days to do stuff, and will bookmark all of your ideas for the next trip to that part of the US.

thanks for the u/d. I was looking at this thread yesterday, hoping for one. I really feel that part of the country, from NW Arkansas to SW Missouri, is highly underrated.
