2 Weeks Budget Travel: SF >>> Denver

I'm flying to San Francisco in a week and have about two weeks before I need to be in Denver. I have absolutely zero plans for those two weeks other than spending some days in SF and some at Yosemite plus a few hours of remote work here and there. Anyone wanna help me create a loose plan? I'll have a budget for a few nicer dinners and entertainment, but most days I'll be on a low budget/backpacker style travel.
Should I use SF as home base with occasional day trips before heading to Denver?
Or
After a few days in SF, spread my travel out between SF and Denver? SLC/Park City? Tahoe? Any other stops? Skiing?
Anyone taken the Amtrak Zephyr between the two cities
All recommendations welcome! Thanks!

I’ve driven from SF to Denver via sequoia/kings canyon and southern utah
the driving leg from the Fresno area thru Nevada to Utah is too long for a there and back, as is the Utah to Denver leg
I would see all you can see in and around NoCal and the Sierras and then fly to Denver
especially in around sequoia you can get around and camp for little money and it’s spectacular and not so crowded as Yosemite

I'd do a road trip if it was me. Yosemite, Mono Lake, Tahoe, skip Reno unless you like gambling, Salt Lake City, detour to Jackson Hole (5 hour drive from SLC), before arriving in Denver.
If you decide on staying near San Francisco for most of the duration, you could split up your 2 weeks. 1st week - San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma/Redwoods. 2nd week - Yosemite, Mono Lake (highly recommend as a place to stay outside of Yosemite), and Tahoe. There are also wineries near Yosemite.

I would definitely look at winter road closures first
the trip we took was SF>sequoia>zion(via Vegas)>bryce>green river>denver
if there’s no weather or road issues that’s a good route but the parks might be an issue with this shut down. I70 during ski season would be something I personally would avoid
