WiFi garage door opener
Posted by KingofZydeco on 1/31/19 at 9:23 pm00
Does anyone have any experience with these EWeLink Relay WiFi switches?

I plan on using it for a electric driveway gate opener. I just hook it to the “push button” terminals of the control board.
Seems like a no brainer for only $13. It interfaces with Alexa/etc as well.

I used that exact one. It works great. Just connect to the terminals on the back of the opener.
I can use Alexa to open my doors or use my phone. I set a routine with Alexa to automatically open my door when I arrive home. That works pretty well but I think the geolocation sometimes lags.

i don't have that module, but I've got something similar that I put together.
The nice thing about that device is if you ever want to expand into more home automation with local control; you can flash it with custom firmware. Then there's no need for alexa to talk with Chinese servers.

I curious about this.
We have a liftmaster that I can’t get hooked up right.

That’s what I have as well. I use my phone to open and close it and I can use the app to open it close it. Once I hooked it to my home WiFi everything seemed to just work together.

Yeah I have the app on my phone and that works great but I would like to connect it to Alexa and set up geofencing? if possible.

I’m using SmartThings hub at my house, but apparently you have to use IFTTT to interface. I’ll probably be happy just using Alexa and the native app when needed.

I went with GogoGate2. I had to cut the wires a little bit so I could connect it to the door opener (way better aesthetically) and not the button, but it has worked great. It uses IFTTT as well to connect to all the smart home ecosystems.
