Why are most/all of my Google News headlines by Fox News?

Edit: Bumping my own old topic. Added an interesting (to me) image a few posts down.

I assume Google News preferences are driven by browsing history. I don't peruse right-leaning news sites (other than looking at the train wreck that is the Poli Board here) at all.

For "Top Stories" - 4 of the 6 are Fox News, for "World" it's 2 of 4, "US" 4 of 4, "Business" 2 of 4.

What's driving Fox to the top of my news sources?

(Also - no idea if this is the right board for this topic. I figured you guys might have the best idea.)

I’m far from liberal in my views but in my experience, Google News pushes Washington Post stories to the top of my feed relentlessly...and they all have bylines and headlines that skew negatively towards the current Presidential Administration.

I really feel like Google will bring you a good bit of articles that you don't agree with. (look at the post below yours) I wouldn't be surprised if we are more inclined to click on articles we don't agree with... or it could be that they want you to expand your horizons? I think for a much flack as Google gets from both sides, at the end of the day they are extremely centrist

That could be it.

It seems like hindsight (or my imagination) but I seem to remember a lot of RT.com articles last year and rarely (if ever) this year.

Maybe they're "promoting" stuff that's getting shared frequently elsewhere in the social media sphere?

the links on "political talk" that you click on become part of your unique pixel that they use to generate your feed.

so a lot of links with Trump, Fox, etc will be enough

you can customize the feed though to get ignore that stuff

Google is looking over your shoulder as you peruse the web. You're apparently visiting Fox on a regular basis - and Google knows it.

If there's one word that describes Google, it's "relevance". CNN would not be relevant to you.

I rarely if ever, click on links on the Poli Board and don't visit Fox News.

That's why I'm curious as to why it's happening.

Maybe Google is trying to be contrarian.

They usually push left-leaning stuff on me.

That's what I was thinking.

I just thought it was curious - thanks for the thoughts.

Bumping an old topic - thought this was interesting. I finally got smart enough to click the settings gear on my Google News home page.

As far as I recall, I haven't favorited (or de-favorited) any news sources.

Maybe I got click happy?

This is making me craft up a tinfoil hat.

I hate how they changed Google Now. Just give me weather, sports, calendar, and traffic. The feed is flooded by stupid fricking news articles I couldn't care less about.

All of that is still there. You do have to click the little geometric shape with 3 rays of sunshine emitting from it.

So it's still there, just a little more aggravating to access.

Probably. I don't have any sites listed in either section.

It is a pain in the arse for a few days to do this but it will get rid of 90% of the garbage for good:

1. Click the hotdog menu (veritcal ...) in the top right of the news card.

2. Tap "not interested in *subject*, or

3. Tap "not interested in *source*

I had stopped using the Google feed last year because it was non-stop HuffPo and Salon and WaPo propaganda shite. Once I learned how to stop seeing stories from the fake news sites it is much more bearable.

4. When you see a topic you like, click the hotdog menu and tap the Follow at the top. This will bring you more stories on that subject.

Now 80% of my feed is about cars, trails, TV shows, places, and other random shite I am interested in.

Google has started sneaking in fake news from random blogs I've never heard of to try and correct me but I zap those with the quickness.

As for RT, Google officially removed them from the algorithm so they will never show up on any feeds or recommendations, unless you specifically search for it.
