I've tried twice now to install it using Windows Update and it rolls back each time at around 45-50% on the install, restores previous windows version, and fails with the good old 80070005 error

I may wait this one out I suppose.

I wouldn't until all programs/apps become compatible with Windows 10...

I upgraded my new HP laptop to Win10 last night. When I restarted, it asked me to "Use Express Settings".

Select "Use Express Settings" to:

send contacts and calendar details to Microsoft

let windows and apps request your location and use your advertising ID

Send Microsoft and trusted partners some location data

Automatically connect to suggested open hotspots and shared networks.
Not all networks are secure.

I selected "customize settings" to see what the express setting would do.

Personalization

Personalize your speech, typing, and inking by sending contacts and calendar details,
along with other associated input data to Microsoft.

Send typing and inking data to Microsoft to improve the recognition and suggestion platform.

Let apps use your advertising ID for experiences across apps.

Location

Let Windows and apps request your location, including location history,
and send Microsoft and trusted partners some location data to improve location services.

Connectivity and error reporting

Automatically connect to suggested open hotspots. Not all networks are secure.

Automatically connect to networks shared by your contacts.

I downloaded it last night and installed. Wow, I notice a significant performance boost, and MS Edge is a fast web browser.
Well done, Microsoft, well done.

I had to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the touchpad but it works now. I like everything else about 10 so far. Seems to be a solid upgrade.

Well I got home and it was ready to go on my 6yo acer laptop.

It just finished and so far it looks and runs butter smooth.

So far I'm happy. We'll see where it goes from here.

As long as Plex and utorrent are running I'm a happy cad.

I know there's a way to edit the registry in Win 8 to tell it that this was an upgrade vs clean install. That trick worked for me when trying to use an upgrade product key after a clean install of Win 8.

dont frick around in regedit unless you know what you are doing.

Tried to upgrade my home computer (Windows 7 pro SP 1)last night..

1st phase completed
2nd phase completed
3rd phase started, screen went blank for well over an hour...
then rebooted and rolled back to Windows 7.

Error 0X8007002c - 0x4000D
Installation failed in the second_boot phase with and error during the migration_data operation.

Did this three times...

Why I tried 2 times after the first, without doing anything any different, I don't know. Like I expected it to fix itself?

Oh yeah... Attempted to install from USB Drive via Download from Microsoft using their media creator thingy.

Anyone have any suggestions?

That's why I didn't give out any instructions. regedit at your own risk.

Make sure you have a MINIMUM of 5gb of free space on the HD your installing it on (C: for almost everyone). I was getting errors since my C: is rather small.

Installed it yesterday, from Win 7 Pro and I like it so far. It's not the difference seen between Win98 and WinXP, but it's an improvement.

I'll do the wife's Win8.1 in the next day or so. Be so glad to get rid of that monstrosity.

I recommend the upgrade.
