re: Who is doing the Free Windows 10 upgrade tomorrow?

Issues I've run into so far:
- When I first installed Win 10 (upgrade), Windows defaulted to my Intel iGPU. Since it's not driving any monitors, Win 10 first booted to black screen. I'd installed an nvidia Win10-ready driver before upgrading, but once I upgraded, there was a new driver ready for me. Geforce experience auto-updated without issue.
- You can't pin files to start menu, only programs. The workaround is creating a shortcut assigned to the file's path. I had to do this with all of my Steam games because the shortcut that Steam generates for new games is treated as a file rather than a Windows shortcut. Probably not a bug, just the way windows likes it.
- Applying SLI after the driver install caused my taskbar contextual menus to be blank. Fixed with a reboot.
- The "Personalize" settings menu is lacking. It seems the only way to set a slideshow background is to access the old wallpaper menu via cmd /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper. Also, there is no way natively to set different static wallpapers per monitor. Slideshow is forced when selecting multiple wallpapers.
- Cortana should be able to intuitively navigate under the hood. Maybe eventually.
Just minor annoyances. Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

I haven't tried it on 10 yet but there's an app in the Windows store called "Steam Tile" that makes start menu tiles for Steam games. I know it worked with Windows 8.

I'll check that out, thanks. This is my first time giving a shite about the start menu. I've always used Stardock fences to organize my desktop icons. But Win10's start menu integration inspired me to make the change.

Temporarily uninstalled avast and disabledthe windows firewall and it worked now.
Need to update some drivers though, track pack isn't working nor are the function (Mac functions) keys.
Looks pretty slick so far! I dig it.

Yea my next try is gonna be after u installing avp.

I tried it. Had two annoying problems: The most annoying was that the sound would stutter, sounded like too much bass. This drove me nuts trying to watch nearly any video. The second was that my Wifi would disconnect on its own a few times a day. I spent way too much time researching, installing new drivers, and trying to fix both problems to no avail. So I'm back on Windows 7 for now. I'm a luddite. I'll check back later to see if that stuff is sorted out.

New bug. My start icons are invisible.
They're still there in the sense that I can click them and launch the program, but I can't see them. Not sure what even caused it, but signing out or rebooting fixes it. Guess I'll have to try to reproduce it.

Did these bugs come from upgrade or manual fresh install

I'm back up on 10 running fine with sound. Cautiously installed webroot on a fresh 7 before going to 10 this time.

Successful install from 7 to 10 on my HP Probook. All went well and seems to be running fine.
When I installed it on my Surface Pro 3, it was terrible. Drivers were lost, Apps/links didn't work. Just finished resetting it to 8.1. Hopefully, they address some of the bugs within that 30-day reload period.

My HP laptop keeps overheating during the upgrade and shutting down. Should I try to hardwire it versus doing it over the wireless card?

My laptop is basically a brick post "upgrade". Tries to load and just goes to black screen. Can't even restore to previous restore point. Ridiculous.

I played with the dev preview/RC so I knew what I was going to get with Win10. I definitely like it. I was cool with Win8.1 but 10 tops it. I had to reboot after it first came up to get all video drivers running properly. It's been pretty slick on my desktop so far. Going to upgrade my work lappy soon. I also appreciate that it didn't overwrite GRUB, though since I default boot to Ubuntu, it did take a bit of extra babysitting during the install to make sure it went back to Windows after each reboot.

So I finally got the actual notification from the Window 10 upgrade system tray icon that my upgrade was ready and I could start (without forcing it).....guess what....same damn 80070005 error....Windows pisses me off sometimes.

I upgraded today. It refused to upgrade from the Get Windows 10 notification in the system tray, but it worked fine when I went through Windows Update.
So far it looks promising. I want COrtana to do more as well, but I expect that will happen. The only real problem I've had is that it has stopped recognizing my wired internet connection since the upgrade. It keeps failing to obtain an IP. It's connecting fine wirelessly, though, so I'll figure it out tomorrow. Only a minor annoyance.

I've used it since several builds before 10240, and I've got to say that it's been the most pleasant OS swap I've ever done. I did the upgrade to check out the experience. The only issues I ran into were Virtual Box having issues causing Docker build issues and WebStorm 10.0.4 requiring legacy console enabled to work. Outside of that and the a few Nvidia centric issues (Dual-monitors with different refresh rates causing issues and the bad Nvidia driver right before launch), it's been flawless for me.
I'm going to go back and do a fresh install when all of my applications are updated to support Windows 10, but because this is my personal dev machine, I don't want to risk having to frick with all of my build tools and whatnot to get them to work if something strange pops up. I really do love it. It's what I believe a modern OS should be.
Cortana could do a little more, but I am impressed with what it can do already. Things like "Open Skype for Desktop" and "Open Elder Scrolls Online" in quick succession with the "Hey Cortana" voice command is really handy for when I'm multitasking or trying to get into a game quickly. I can't wait to see where it goes from here because it's pretty awesome. I'd love to be able to say "Open Skype and call Joe Schmo" or "Create a JS file in the current working directory named 'app.js'" and it work. That's pretty intense, but it's really what I'd want in addition to what is there now.

I did the manual upgrade. Took like 30 minutes. No issues so far. Played Xbox One game on the PC. Was pretty cool. So far I love it.
