What's your typical internet data usage per month?
Something seems way off with my usage. I live by myself and I often go over the 1024GB limit that I have. I work 50+ hours a week and when I'm off I'll watch tv through PSVUE and surf the web a bit. When I woke up this morning I was showing 45000 mb used through the netgear website. I downloaded the Glasswire program to monitor my usage and it was saying I used about 250 mb. I keep calling Cox to see if there's something wrong and they just keep telling me I can upgrade to the unlimited plan. Any ideas?

I’ve never heard anything from AT&T about going over a limit a I have two children that are streaming nonstop, especially during the summer. We have Prime and Netflix plus regular usage and we haven’t heard anything from our ISP.

If you are just streaming stuff by yourself, there is something wrong. You shouldn't be hitting those numbers with one person streaming.

I have two people in my house, we stream hulu, netflix, and I download and play games and torrents and we use about 400 gb a month.

I agree. I'm a heavy heavy streamer and I run a Plex server with dozens of people in it and I average 1.5 TBs.

First thing I would do is change you wifi password. Maybe your neighbors are streaming from it.

My mom is on AT&T and has a 1TB cap, like you.

I monitor it for her. She uses about 28MB a day on average. She has YouTube TV, FYI and Vudu, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

If an 85 year old woman is watching probably 12 or more hours a day, then you should look at your daily usage in surfing. For example, you can block images and videos in your browser unless you choose to see them. Are you a gamer?

You shouldn't be hitting your cap unless Cox is using frickery to monitor your usage.

I'm a gamer when I have time but that hasn't been since the week Red Dead Redemption 2 came out. According to Cox I used 90k mbs yesterday and 80k so far today. The Glasswire program says I've used 2.8k today. The first person I talked to at Cox yesterday said the most I ever used in a month was 84k but she transferred me to someone else that said that the first person I spoke to made a mistake. The only decent access I have now is Cox which I fricking hate. I'm going to figure this out.

Craig, you might want to remove your address on Tech Drive

re: What's your typical internet data usage per month?
i easily go over the 1tb.. as you see i hit around 6tb last month..

but i download a lot and have others on the same network.

i pay cox $50 a month extra to have no cap so i dont ever have to worry about going on. i can't stand the idea of caps.

i am switching to LUS this week and thankfully they have no cap on the highest tier.

Are you making sure you're shutting down your psvue stream before turning off tv? If you turn off tv but don't shut the stream/turn off streaming device it will continue to stream with tv off

I use well over a terabyte a month without even trying. Cox sent me nastygrams for about 4-6 months, then they applied the overage fee one month and I got unlimited. The 4k TV destroys any data cap.

I now just start long 4k videos to entertain the cat before I leave home just out of spite.

I had LUS for a while. They technically had a cap on the tier I was on, but their FCC documentation specifically states they have never contacted a consumer about exceeding the cap. Great internet service with no cap for affordable prices.

this.

eta along with the point i made in an earlier thread that an update to one of my son's PC games was 300GB+ and 'auto update' was turned-on.

add the fact it hung up 2-3x times when downloading the update forcing it to start over and VOILA! You're frickED.

Does this include upload and download? Cox is adding up both for your data caps.

i'll do you one better. i have ZERO cell service out in the boonies where i live so my 'unlimited tmobile data' is coming from my little WiFi -> LTE transmogrifier box they gave me for free so anyone who comes to my house (or passing by close enough for my 'microtower') also get counted against my comcrap data cap.

luckily my property is large enough that the LTE signal degrades pretty rapidly by the time it gets to the street but there's definitely some 'drive bys' that steal my comcast data.
