Just received a jailbroke firestick and to say I am not tech savvy is an understatement. First how important is a vpn? Will is speed streaming up/help prevent buffering? What do most people use that has the best performance and price? TIA

No such thing as a jailbroke firestick. You probably just have KODI and some KoODI addons installed or some Apps (apk's) that allow you to watch movies/TV shows on demand. I would definitely get a VPN. They are simple to install and you just fire the VPN app up before watching something off of the pre-installed "jailbroke" apps. Turn the VPN off before trying to watch Netflix or Prime as they don't allow VPNs to be used while streaming their content.

Also, you need to learn how to manage KODI or the other apps installed. Any individual "jailbroke" app will only last a finite period of time before it is blocked or shutdown. I would say youre lucky if an app lasts a year. Usually there will be another newer app out there that will do the same thing as the one that was blocked and you will need to sideload (install) it.

This guy has good info on apps and install methods

I have ipVanish and its been good. NordVPN and ExpressVPN are the other big ones that are good. You'll pay about $5/ mo.

I don't think I have kodi. I know I have one app that gives you access to movies still in the theatres and one with free Netflix hulu, etc and every channel available on cable.

Use a VPN and learn what you have and how to replace it with another sideloaded app when the one you have craps out.

No, it will slow you down if anything.

Yes, a VPN will be slower but still fast enough to stream movies/TV.

The other thing that is good to do, but not absolutely neccessary, is to change to your internet service to use a public DNS rather than your internet providers DNS.

I use the Google Public DNS (in spite of its name, it is more secure than your ISPs DNS). How to Change to Google DNS

I use ipVanish. Also something you might want to get is Real Debrid. Their streams are much better than the normal ones. Also it is dirt cheap. A couple bucks for 6 months. I am by no means a pro at this but I have gotten a lot better than when I first got y firestick. Google and YouTube will be your best friends. That is how I learned how to do a lot of stuff. Also this board has good info as well.
