nothing if you dont have 4k content

If you don’t stream movies, tv shows, etc then there is no point of getting one. Cable doesn’t offer 4K content on normal channels besides a few here and there.

Check these charts out. Don't get one if you can't use it at an optimal distance.
While true, it's getting a lot harder to find a non 4k TV. Also, I'm sure there are other enhancements that have nothing to do with 4K tech itself for picture quality that come with 4k TVs that non 4K TVs don't have because manufacturers are focusing on improving those models.

If you are buying a new TV over 55 inches it's gonna be 4K or it's a real cheap pos.

Depends on the TV size and viewing distance but probably true for the way most peoples' TV rooms/entertainment rooms are set up.

Imho HDR is more important than 4K resolution. HDR can make a dramatic difference and isn't as limited by viewing distance.
Plenty of 4K content out there now with Netflix and Amazon. I stopped buying blu rays many years ago, but have started buying Ultra HD Blu Ray discs which are 4K and HDR.

I hate how 4K displays are being shoved in my face. If you want a top model TV from a manufacturer 4K is just about your only option. You do get some features with a 4K display that otherwise aren't available on 1080p sets which is nice I suppose.

You almost cant buy a 1080p tv anymore unless yo uneed a sub 40" set.
If you find a 50" 1080p tv, you can probably buy an equivalent 4k set for really not much more at all.
There's no reason to buy a 1080p set unless you are buying one under 32" because 40"+ 1080p sets are few and far between nowadays and arent much cheaper than 4k alternatives. The 1080p sets left are all the very very lowest of end panels and feature sets pretty much.
Keep in mind 4k tvs upscale lower than 4k level content to 4k, no it doesnt look as good as actual 4k content, but it generally does look better than cheapo 1080p tvs. Almost all 4k tvs today support HDR in some form or fashion, and while the cheap ones dont benefit much from HDR, it still has a small benefit.

How are they being shoved in your face? That makes no sense. 4K TVs now are basically the same price as 1080 TVs five years ago. You can get a 50 inch 4K for like 350

Those charts are horseshite. You need an 80” tv if you sit 10 feet away to tell a difference? And I have to sit between 4 and 6 feet away from a 55”?
I’ll sit 10 feet away from my 55 and put on a 4K movie and can easily notice the difference

Well, some of us prefer our TVs to not look like this..
