W10 will not boot with 32GB RAM installed [Update: Solved]
This is one of the most frustrating issues I've run across, partially because its my own machine and partially because it makes no goddamn sense. W10 (Pro) will not boot into the OS with 32GB of RAM installed. Boots with 16GB no problem. 32 causes immediate blue screen and freeze, no ability to even get into the recovery environment.

BIOS sees the RAM and can even change the timings and XMP profile.
All 4 RAM slots are confirmed good.
All 4 RAM modules are confirmed good.
RAM is on the approved vendor list for make, model, and use in all 4 channels at once.

Specs:
MSI B350m Bazooka
Ryzen 7 1700x
HyperX 2133 4@8GB each
Samsung 840 Pro SSD

Any ideas? I thought, maybe, it would be because this was not a clean install of the OS (the ssd was simply moved over from a different machine w/16GB) but W10 is so good about self resolving those issues. I would like to not have to do a clean install and go about re-installing a billion programs and settings but unless I'm missing something stupid - that looks to be my future.

according to the QVL on the MSI website, yes. RAM is listed by CPU and config.

if you mix and match ram vendors this can happen.

Bluescreens are almost always either bad hardware or bad drivers.

If Windows starts in safe mode, it's a bad driver.

If it's not a bad driver, double check your RAM using MemTest86. I've had bad memory pass the Windows Memory Diagnostic, but fail MemTest86.

its not the RAM modules nor the RAM slots on the motherboard, I've verified each independently.

I would question a B350's ability to run 4 slots populated at rated timings. 1st place I'd look is to try swapping boards.

I assume when you say youve verified each stick and slot separately, that means you've run memtest exhaustively with each slot populated with only 1 stick.

The electrical demands of 4 slots populated are vastly different. Youd likely need to relax timings to get stability.

Did you look in your motherboard manual and put them in the correct slots?

NVM thought they were 2x16

Have you tried updating the BIOS or downgrading?

come on man, you know me

I'm on the latest BIOS revision, and again I have verified that this board should handle all 4 slots populated with this exact sku of RAM per their support FAQ

Isn't it obvious that W10 is not compatible with 32GB RAM?

32GB is pointless anyway. 16GB is borderline pointless. How can you possibly multitask so much that you need that much RAM?

Can you try and boot into Linux Mint and see if the system crashes? Would save you the headache of reinstalling Windows only to find out it's a hardware issue..

I had a similar issue. I’ve built a number of computers and it was pretty embarrassing when I found out the issue. One of the DIMs was not pushed down all the way. That particular slot needed more force than the others.

May be something stupid and simple like that. Worth checking.

I hear ya, man. I've seated and re-seated this shite so much I think I'm going nuts.

Update: Linux works fine. Sees all 32GB. W10 portable USB works too.

eta: W10 portable works, but booting to W10 install media fails

I know it's not a completely clean install but what about trying Windows 7/8 and if that works upgrade to 10 and see what happens?
