Updated: Help me set-up my home entertainment center!
Updated:

Just purchased a 65” LG OLED B7A.....FINALLY!!

Now I need help deciding accessories to go with it.

-soundbar/speakers
-Blu-ray player
-hdmi cord
-roku or other similar device
-minimum specs for WiFi I should be looking at?

Live in an apartment, so I’m not looking for subs or any high-end speaker set-up at the moment.

Primarily looking for recommendations on which type of hdmi cord to get (2.0, 2.2, etc?), which type of Blu-ray player to get, and info on basic set ups.

Just don't pay $2500+ for that TV. Keep an eye out for them on slickdeals.net. I have a 65" B7A on the way for $1900 from an authorized dealer. If you have a card with price protection, you can play it against shady sites like JoesAV, EbuyUSA, or TVSuperstores and get the cost down even further to around $1500-$1600.

Here's a current deal on C7P.

Price protect against TVSuperstores for $1835.(You could likely find it even lower in the coming weeks).

Personally, I would skip the soundbar and find a nice set of floor speakers/Center Channel Speaker for Voices/Ceiling speakers for backfill/Subwoolfer. I run a 5.1 setup that really creates a 3D sound environment.

Match that to a $500+ HDMI receiver that switches between your normal TV signal(Cable/DirectTV, etc.), an inexpensive Blu Ray player(these will be dinosaurs in a few years as everything is heading towards streaming).

Add in your choice of Amazon FireTV(my favorite), Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.

My personal setup:
Receiver
Floor Speakers
Center Channel
Subwoofer
Ceiling backfills

Add your gaming system as you like. Oh, and throw in a Logitech 650 Harmony Remote that will cut down on all the remotes

Not a bad recommendation from LSU$$$, but I would skip that receiver. You are getting a very nice tv so spend the money on a receiver that does 4K, Dolby vision, HDR, Dolby Atmos and dtsX. Try to find a deal on a Denon x4400h. For HDMI cables check these out from Monoprice. LINK

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a refurb unit from accessories4less or onecall off of eBay. Both are certified sellers for Denon and offer a warranty.

a $1200 receiver? Yeah, I was trying to keep him on a reasonable budget since he was interested in a soundbar in the first place

i'm not in this business anymore but i agree if you're buying a reciever in 2018 its just silly not to get one that can handle these formats.

Any other suggestions?

Really looking for any specific hdmi cord and Blu-ray player to get first. Then I will worry about a soundbar or speaker set-up later.

Get an OPPO 4K player while they last...they are ceasing production and it is the best bang for the buck in disc players.

See the OPPO thread on the first page.

The BD-203 4K player runs around $520.

Why don't you return your $2000 65" LG and get a $2000 75" sony?

Sony has built in android tv that has all the apps on Google play. Can even put kodi on it. Can also get a $200 credit on a soundbar. Wouldn't need multiple remotes.

The Sony isn't an OLED panel. Big difference.

Well the OLED is only $1400, not $2000. And I don’t have space for a 75” tv.

I don’t think I can justify spending over 1/3 what I spent on a tv, on a DVD player ($500+). Is the picture really that much better than a $$150-$200 Blu-ray player? Aren’t DVD/Blu-ray players essentially relics of the past, with everything going the way of streaming now. I just can’t justify spending $500+ on a disc player.

Not if you want the best possible quality. Streaming video is still highly compressed, unlike blu ray

So is a $500 player really that much better than a $200 Sony X700?

If so, then what type of hdmi cord should one get with their $500 oppo?

I don’t know much about the different types of blu Ray players, just know that it’s the best possible quality you can get

And for hdmi cable just get a 2.0 one, don’t get screwed over into buying one of those expensive ones though

Just make sure it passes HDR before you run it in the wall. Too many cables out there claim they do HDR but they don't.

2.0? Not a 2.2?
