Unlocked Iphone

I bought an Iphone X a few months ago with ATT and am tired of paying the crazy monthly rate. I'm looking at going pre-paid and just pay the phone balance off. How do I tell if the phone is unlocked from ATT?

If bought through ATT, it’s locked. Call them and unlock it.
If you like the service through att, go with cricket wireless. They use ATT towers
$55/mo after Auto Pay credit
Unlimited Max plan includes:
Unlimited high-speed data access* with speeds up to 4G LTE
Unlimited calls, texts and picture messages across the U.S.
Unlimited texts from the U.S. to 37 countries
Data access plus unlimited calls, texts and picture messages to and from Mexico, Canada and the U.S. (Canada usage cannot exceed 50%)

If paid for, it won't be an issue..If not, you're going to pay their cancellation fee + phone price

You have to pay the remaining balance and call them to unlock it. But there are a couple of prepaid providers that will work while it’s still locked.

Cricket might work since it’s att
I have cricket and very happy with the service since they use att towers.
T-Mobile doesn’t get as good of service where I live in Louisiana
I joined cricket at the best time, they actually paid off all my T-Mobile contracts and gave me my first few months free. Then I got five lines unlimited everything (lte will throttle after a certain amount on each but I don’t care) for exactly $100 and no other tax or charges. No contract either. I doubt they ever offer that again. Now they have 4 lines for the 100 I think, but no paying off a contract promotion.
What companies were you looking at?

I’m looking at Boom mobile or total wireless. I want to try and get back to Verizon service.

Look into Visible. It's Verizon's new prepaid service. For $40 you get unlimited everything and you can tether 1 device at a time. Data speeds are limited to 5mbps.

I'm looking into this as I just paid off ATT devices and now getting them unlocked.
