We have AT&T internet, the middle package.

We just use the default router/modem they provide. Is there a benefit to get a better router, and if so, what are your recommendations? It is currently in the office opposite the house from our bedroom. We have a 2K sq for home all one floor.

I would recommend a mesh network. There are a few but I have Google Wifi (3pk) and it works well.

What are the speeds offered?

Are you having coverage issues now?

They offer like 50/100/150 or something like that.

I have occasional slow internet at night near my room.

why? why would you do that? Is it because it is the new thing to recommend?

Look mesh systems are great for Dummy Joe, but still is not as good as running cat wire to an access point or points.

I recommended because he has coverage issues and asked if a new router would make a difference. Sure, running cat is the best option but not always feasible. My experience with a mesh has been positive so I vouched for it....I thought that's what forums were for

If you plug directly into the modem, what speed do you get?

If you plug directly into the router, what speed do you get?

What speed do you get over Wifi?

What is your Wifi coverage? Can you raise the height of your modem/router?

Do you have access to change the Router settings?

Dummy Joe here checking in. I've got CAT6 all through my house. House is almost 5000 square feet, and my smart panel is in closet under stairs, my moden/router combo is there also (not smart) I want solid coverage throughout, I ordered a mesh system on black friday. Is there a better Dummy Joe solution for my setup/situation?

Edit

Can I plug my modem/router into any cat6 outlet in my house and will it reboot/restore/recognize all setting? Would love to pull it out closet.

If you have access, you can try updating the firmware for the router. Sometimes that'll speed things up based on the model.

It took me a long time to realize those combos are just garbage, especially certain brands.
