We’re getting my grandma a series 4 Apple Watch because she’s had some falls recently and she’s not very good about keeping her cell phone with her all the time. My question is can I set it up where it only calls her emergency contacts in the event of a detected fall and not call 911 as well? My fear is that the watch will erroneously detect a fall and she will accidentally call 911 because she’s 80 years old and gets confused by technology at times. She lives way out in the country so her emergency contacts would be able to respond much quicker than the volunteer EMTs ever could anyways.

I looked at mine. Not saying it can't be done but I don't see a way to do it.

She can't get the life alert like all the rest of the cool old people?

Thought about the life alert but she didn’t want that. She’ll probably also use the watch for normal non emergency phone calls as well when her phone isn’t near.

Yea I know it sounds weird, but she’s not totally technology illiterate. She has an iPhone and can text and stuff but if she sees something pop up on the screen that she hasn’t seen before she never knows what to do.

Why not get both? I'm sure the life alert can be purchased through insurance.

Not to be negative, but I bet she will forget to put it on the charger on the regular. No matter how you hook it up, it still has to have a charged battery for it to work.

Get her the 42 mm version. I have the 3 series and get at least two days out of it. An old person probably wouldn’t be using it as much and might get a little more. Plus it charges pretty fast. I put it on the charger every morning while showering and getting ready and get at least 20% of a charge. I rarely charge overnight because I use it for an alarm clock.
