I've had Photoshop elements on my laptop and when I upgraded to Windows 10, it's no longer compatible. Anybody have any recommendations for a new program to get? It's for personal use, not for business use.

i'm not very familiar with any of the programs. All i've ever had was Elements. Is it somewhat similar? I'll look it up, that's why I was asking for opinions, thanks

You can download creative cloud and get photoshop and lightroom for $9.99 a month.
Its actually a great deal even though I don't use photoshop, I just use lightroom because they update it and you don't have to keep buying upgrades. Its economical to get these programs and stay current.
Look into it, lightroom is the best photo developer IMO, particularly if you shoot in RAW.

is there a way i can just pay a flat fee for the program without a monthly subscription though?

I’m pretty sure they went to the subscription only model now. I was hesitant on it as well but I enjoy always getting the latest updates. There are some pretty decent free photo editing programs out there as well.

I think so, but it will still be subscription. Yearly or so.
It's a damn good bargain considering what the two programs were separately and the cost of updates.
Lightroom is far and above the best editing program I have used.

What version is it? I have elements from, man, it’s gotta be at least 7-8 years ago now, if not more, and it still works fine with Windows 10

Just buy a newer version.

Elements 14 looks to be about 2-3 years old. You can get the current version, Elements 2018, for $70 on Amazon LINK

Adobe and Microsoft have worked closely together to test Elements applications for reliability, performance, and user experience when installed on Intel-based systems running Windows 10. Photoshop Elements 14, Premiere Elements 14, and later versions are compatible.

Affinity Photo
Honestly I haven't tried it. I dropped my Photoshop subscription a few months ago. I found Affinity, but haven't needed it yet.
Take a look it's only $50

I don't have Affinity but I use a page layout program from Serif who makes Affinity and it's not bad. If the OP or anyone else does go with Affinity, look for a deal on the last version. Serif often will sell the older version at a nice discount.

Can anyone comment on how darktable compares to lightroom?
