I've recently come across some old drives that were taken for a ride via Crypto2.0...I downloaded recuva and it showed a ton of folder structure but could only recover a handful of files..I then downloaded an actual photo recovery software and it found the same structure but claimed it would recover several hundreds of Gbs worth of data..It only wants $50 to do so...Before I pay that, is there anything any one here has used that was free or close to it ? Not here for the holier than thou, take that shite to the "invite me to iptorrents" thread..Yes, I believe in sharing shite freely on the internet

I've used Ontrack EasyRecovery in the past on an external hard drive that shite the bed. I was able to recover 20k photos off the bad hard drive.

As I'm understanding your issue, you're trying to recover files from a drive that was encrypted from an attack of one of the ransomware variants.
If that's the case, you don't need drive recovering software, you need a decryption tool for that specific ransomeware. There are a number of companies that have put out free decryption tools for some of those variants. First you need to identify what was used on your machine then search for that decryption tool.
Here's a site that lists some of tools that are available Decryption tools

I'm yet to find anything that worked for CLv2...seems to be a known issue..

I wound up paying the $50 for the software and am still waiting for it to finish the recovery..If it works, I'll be happy to share the reg info

Interesting thread.

I accidentally deleted some photos off an SD card that I hadn't transferred to my HD/online. I then shot photos on that card.

Recuva saw the files but can't do anything about it since I took new pictures and overwrote the old files. A real bummer.

its free so I guess you get what you get...

looks like even my paid software has issues since they files are technically not there to be recovered..

If anyone knows a legit way around Crypto2.0, feel free to shoot it my way

Ya, there might just not be any data to actually pull. Probably just a part of a leg, someone's head in another photo, etc.
