Notes just vanished from iPhone 8

Was working this afternoon and went to look at something and the app was just completely empty. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear that I had them set up to backup to iCloud (Herpity Derp). I googled and did some very basic things like make sure my email address was still working and note sharing was on but it made no difference. I’ve checked the “all iCloud” folder and everything and there’s just nothing. I read some ppl have this issue after updating but I don’t think mines updated for several days at least and it’s running 12.1.4.
Perhaps foolishly, I had some semi important stuff on there and would really like to get them back if anyone has dealt with this before. I gotta go work for a bit but will be back to check the thread after

Not sure if coincidence or not, but my wife's iPhone 8 just this afternoon deleted a note she had taken earlier in the day. Weird

Did you check the "Recently Deleted" folder in the Notes app?

Try going to settings then notes
And then try changing default account, then check again after going through each setting?? Idk

Tried both of those with no luck, I’ve basically given up at this point
There a program called “Phonerescue for IOS” that supposedly would retrieve lost notes and cost like $50 BUT says I’d you don’t get what you wanted they’ll give you a full refund
Well after much effort I downloaded it and tried it and it did pull up some old notes but they were from like 2016 and not what I lost. I have since emailed asking for the refund but so far have heard nothing back
