New home construction

In the process of building our home. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to electronics so I need help. What are some things I should do or have the electrician do extra.
1. I would like to have an audio system that can run in the living room and outside. I am not sure what to buy here to have it installed. What are some things I should look for?
2. Should I run extra cables to rooms? If so, what will they be used for.
3. I would like an intercom system because our kid rooms will be upstairs. What are some recommendations?
4. Recommendations for thermostat.
5. Any other things I should think about?
Any input is appreciated.

Starting my build later this year so I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

One piece of advice I have is to run cat 6 cables to every room, and do it in a star or home run configuration. Same for coax. Have all those low-voltage cables go to a networking closet of some sort.

This...plus all the other stuff about cat6 and coax home runs.

I had mentioned this in a thread a while back, ask some of the guys on site to get a few pieces of scrap 2x10 or 2x12 and block out the studs at eye level in locations where you may hang a tv or heavy picture. That way you don't have to find studs when you hang them after the drywall is up. Thank me later.

I am not sure what to buy here to have it installed

Have them drop conduit (pvc pipe) vertically in the walls where your tv will go and also the receiver. It makes running hdmi so much easier. Pre-wire for speakers.

If you have an attic and basement, find a interior wall and run a 2" PVC from attic to basement for future wiring needs.

Check out snappower outlets in strategic areas around the house
cat6 in every room--two in living room and other areas where there might be media center
run all cat6 to media closet
pre-run all speaker cables (buy it from monoprice and run it yourself, cheaper)
