I bought a mac mini because I need to get my desktop gaming rig out of my room (just got married, don't play it and it chews up much needed space). I had gotten it down to basically running my flex server on it at the end so I am going to set up my flex server on the mini using external hard drives.

I would love to be able to set up the Mini and external hard drives as cloud storage also that I could send photos from my phone if this is possible without a huge investment. What would be the best step towards doing this. i take a lot of job videos and photos as I go and it always chews up a lot of storage if I forget to back them up.

You get free storage with iCloud and it will sync with your phone if you have an iPhone.

ETA: You can add more if need be for little cost.

I actually have the small plan already. I like having a hard backup rather than everything being on the cloud. I figured if I could have it sync to my personal hard drives and on the cloud it would help me out. Job videos have saved me several times from false claims against damages.

There might be better or cheaper software, but one of the features of the pay version of Plex is syncing your phones photos and videos. LINK / They usually run a Lifetime license for Plex Pass discounted to I think $150ish every few months if you want to get it at it's cheapest.

There might be other media management software that works better, or maybe look at getting an external hard drive with these features built in, but Plex is a very good media manager so you might find it worthwhile also as a platform to watch Movies and TV with.

- Turn on remote access on the Mac Mini. System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Login. Make sure your password is extremely secure.

- Forward port 22 to your Mac Mini in your router.

- Set up a dynamic DNS client on your Mac Mini for a service like NoIP, so that the dynamic DNS address always points to your home IP address.

- Download an app for your phone platform that allows you to sync photos to an SFTP server. Use your username/password from your Mac Mini account and the address from your dynamic DNS setup.
