Lost Direct TV signal on 2 of my TVs

One of my Direct TV boxes lost the signal during the Thursday night NFL game. I tried rebooting the box and I also rebooted the Genie but I couldn’t get the signal back for that one box, the other 3 TVs were working fine. DTV Tech came out and said the coax cable for that box was bad and that I need to replace it. Once he left my house I noticed a second TV lost it’s signal? So now I have 2 of 4 TVs working. I’ve never heard of coax cables going bad after two years and of course DSLD said they are not responsible and I will have to pay to redrop those two lines.

I've also never heard of a coax going bad. I would be more inclined to check to see if the multiplexer is working. DirecTV can swap it out. If you know where the multiplexer is located you can change the outputs to see if that helps the tvs. In other words plug one of the bad wires in where a good one is located.

AT&T tech here. Not a DTV expert, but it sounds like your DTV coax splitter is going out. It happens occasionally. Basically, you have a single coax coming off the satellite (or ODU) and that is usually split out with a line to each box, usually with a proprietary splitter in the attic but sometimes somewhere closer to the dish.
Anyway, find an AT&T technician (or a DirecTV one although they're harder to spot), and ask them for a DTV splitter. There is a common 4-way splitter that most all of us carry on our trucks. We'll gladly hand it to you for free. Just ask.
Once you undertake the replacement of yours, be sure to note how the existing splitter is wired. Either the DVR (if its an HR54) or a separate power inserter sends power back up the line to the ODU (dish). The power feeds through the splitter on an assigned port. If you hold the splitter in your hand with the label facing up, you will see a red line from the satellite side to a port on one end of the other side. That's where the power flows. But, for all practical purposes, just reconnect it exactly as it is currently wired.
Oh, and re: the coax "going bad" after 2 years: There is a very good chance the original installer used existing wire in the home--maybe replacing the barrels but maybe not even that. In order to work properly, the coax needs to be solid core copper (RG-6)--not the copper clad kind that was prevalent 10-15 years ago (RG-59). The system will run on RG-59, but it is more susceptible to problems. If swapping the splitter doesn't resolve the issue, I'd recommend buying a spool of RG6 and simply running your own. Or, sign up for one month of the $7.99 DTV protection plan and have them do it.

Finally fixed the issues I was having. I have two 4k receivers and two HD receivers. It was the 4k receivers that were not connecting to the server. It took 3 software updates to get the recievers up working again. Direct TV is having trouble with their 4K services.

Rats, rodents or a lazy tech reusing old rg6, instead if 59 or better.

Update: Evidently Direct TV is having software issues with their 4K receivers. A tech came to my house, ran 3 software update and got both receivers running again. The fix only lasted a week and both receivers are out once again. I was informed this morning by Direct TV tech service that they have no update as to when the issue will or can be fixed. I then ask if I can just switch out my 4K receivers with regular HD receivers and I was told that I would be charged an upgrade fee?!?! Is anyone else having these same issues?

As a cable tech I can say that's false. How come they didn't replaced it for you?

If I were you i'd call them back and tell them if they won't give you new receivers then you want to send them back and can live with only one receiver. I had an issue back in the summer with one of mine that was struck by lightning. They wanted to charge me to send a replacement, I said no thanks i'll just send it back and live with one receiver. I had a directv tech at my house the next day replacing it for free and also they knocked $30/month off my bill for 2 years.

Tech coming out tomorrow and switching out my 4K receivers and replacing them. I also agreed to a 24 month extension for only $9.00 a month included in my package are 4 receivers, ultimate package, HBO and Redzone. Also got direct phone line to Diret TV claims management supervisor if I have any other issues.
