Just a reminder.
Glad I upgraded: went from XP to Win7, then upgraded to Win10.

If I was sure the hack that allows me to run a 14 year old version of AutoCAD would work for 10 as it does on 7 and 8, I would go for it.

Just decided to try it one last time. I was having issues with buzzing audio the first couple times I tried it. By luck, I found out that it was actually related to my wireless driver so I uninstalled that and re-installed it and it works fine for now.

Seems like I'm going to stick with Chrome. I am not big on Edge's popup blocker, though I guess I could download a new one. Also, I am a fan of Reddit Enhancement Suite, which isn't available on Edge.

And I was able to download Freecell and Spider Solitaire, which is big for me.

Just do a P2V conversion and save the old OS with AutoCad as a virtual machine you can take with you wherever you go.

I've updated 4 computers from Win 7 to 10. The only problem I've found so far is the restore point setting wasn't enabled on 3 of the 4.

So if I'm just an old school stubborn XP pro user and never owned 7/8 - No free 10 for me, right?

You have to walk the plank.

Upgrade to Vista.
Upgrade to Win 7 version that matches the Vista version and buy a cheap Win 7 key.
Legit free upgrade to Win 10, if your machine can handle it.

I had XP Pro with its latest service pack (3?).
Loaded Win7 Pro using the OEM installation disc then updated that to Win10.

In short, XP Pro to Win7 Pro then Win10 is how I did it.

When I restarted my computer a couple days ago I got a message to update to Windows 10 by 7/29. I didn't think my computer could even do it.

A couple questions: if I get that message does that mean my computer can for sure do it?

And more importantly, should I just stick with 7? Is it going to be really difficult for me to get used to 10? I work constantly on my computer don't need to have issues while I'm with a client.

You can upgrade from 7 to 10. If you are going to upgrade, I suggest turning off the auto update.

There are differences between the two systems and I'd say the learning curve was not at all steep,
but that's a relative statement.

I defer to more experienced folks on this board to answer that question with more clarity.

It's much less trouble to just do a clean 10 install. Identify any extra software you need, make sure you can download copies of that. Move data files off to a new drive beforehand, then just hook that drive up to the new system.

Yes it is but you have to buy Win 10 for a clean install vs. the free upgrade.
