Have iPhone: Go with Apple Watch 3 or 3 LTE
Have Samsung: Go with Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

These to me are the clear leaders at the moment.

Fwiw:

Android Wear is getting killed, and it’s all Qualcomm’s fault
This weekend will mark two years since Qualcomm's last smartwatch chip was announced.

quote:

Seriously though, Qualcomm has seemingly abandoned the smartwatch market. The Wear 2100 SoC was announced in February 2016, Qualcomm skipped out on an upgrade for February 2017, and it doesn't seem like we're getting a new smartwatch chip any time soon.

In a healthy SoC market, this would be fine. Qualcomm would ignore the smartwatch SoC market, make very little money, and all the Android Wear OEMs would buy their SoCs from a chip vendor that was addressing smartwatch demand with a quality chip. The problem is, the SoC market isn't healthy at all. Qualcomm has a monopoly on smartwatch chips and doesn't seem interested in making any smartwatch chips. For companies like Google, LG, Huawei, Motorola, and Asus, it is absolutely crippling.

quote:

To make matters worse, the Wear 2100 wasn't even a good chip when it was new. The chip is built with a 28nm process, which was old and busted even in 2016. Qualcomm's flagship smartphone SoC at the time was the Snapdragon 820, which used a much better 14nm process. To find a flagship 28nm smartphone chip, you'd have to go back in time to the Snapdragon 801/800. That's right, 28nm was state-of-the-art smartphone technology in 2013. A smaller transistor manufacturing process will lead to a chip that is cooler, smaller, and more battery-efficient. While these attributes matter in smartphones, they matter far more in smartwatches, and Qualcomm has never put real effort into its smartwatch chips.

quote:

Meanwhile, Samsung and Apple have taken over the smartwatch market. Apple sells Apple Watches to iOS users, while Samsung makes smartwatches based on its own Tizen OS that work with Android and iOS devices. Both companies have managed to avoid being sabotaged by Qualcomm because both have their own in-house SoC teams. Apple and Samsung devices get a new SoC every year, delivering faster performance and better battery life, while Qualcomm and Android Wear stand still.

I have the 3 and love it, didn't go for the LTE because the added initial cost plus adding to my monthly data plan didn't make sense for what amounts to something I'd virtually never use.

i read that same article a couple of days ago and it depressed me.

every time my once snappy LG urbana hangs forever when i ask it a simple google question i cringe.

and now its pinnned to 'youtube' when i say 'play music' which is fricking retarded when i'm driving home because youtube won't play if its not up live on your phone screen. i can't get it go back to google music no matter what i do which is half the fricking reason i bought the damn watch in the first place...to voice control music in my car without having to pick up my fricking phone.

you damn right cad's pissed.

I got the 3 nonLTE. Didn't see a reason to get the LTE since there will virtually never be a situation where I don't have my phone in my pocket or nearby.

It was definitely one of those things that doesn't seem all that great/useful if you've never used it, but after about two months with it I'm never gong back.

Maybe they gear is better if you have an android device, but the Apple watch seems to be the way to go if you have an iPhone.

I bought the 3 non lte in October wore it everyday until last month and probably won’t again. It doesn’t work well with my truck Bluetooth, causing it (truck radio) to reboot if I get an incoming call. I’m a gadget guy but it just isn’t for me.

Why would you pair the watch with your trucks Bluetooth?

I don't, but my phone is and whenever my phone is connected to my watch is whenever I have trouble.

I have a Pebble Time Steel now, but since FitBit bought Pebble (RIP) and killed the product line, I’ll be getting an Apple Watch when this one dies.

I got the pebble initially because I didn’t want to commit to an expensive smart watch yet since I didn’t know if I’d use it much. Well 2 years in and I cannot go without it. My pebble’s battery lasts about 10 days and if I forget to charge it and go a day without it I literally miss all my calls and text messages because I don’t look at my phone unless my wrist vibrates.

I have the 3 lte and love it. While the lte isn’t for everyone it comes in very handy for me when I’m roaming around the office and not within 15 feet of my phone. I used to miss calls regularly because I would leave my phone on the charger on my desk before starting my routine but now with lte on the watch I don’t need to worry about that. It really is a great companion product. It’s something you don’t think you need until you have it and then you wonder why you didn’t get it sooner. The best part is they are only going to keep getting better. The health functions are great too.
