I'm looking into getting the new iPhone. I haven't bought a new one in a while. Do I specifically have to enroll in the iphone upgrade program or if I do the trade in with monthly installments can I upgrade after 12 months?

Basically are the 24 month plan and the iphone upgrade program plan separate purchases? I'd like to be in the upgrade program but the rate I get from trading in my iphone is much better than if I started the upgrade program outright and it doesn't appear that there's an option with the upgrade program to trade in your old phone.

the upgrade program is a 24mo loan. after 12mo, you can close that loan out and upgrade to a new phone with a new 24mo loan.

What a hook. Keep people “renting” the phones. Sounds like a genius plan by Apple.

It's what the cell service providers do as well.

Cell providers are the ones that started that shite decades ago, some people are just stupid and want to hate for irrational reasons.

I think you have to do it through a store. Call Apple to verify before Friday morning, but I think you reserve your iPhone upgrade phone online during preorders, but set it to pick up at a store and then when you go to pick it up, you trade in there and get the new phone. So you don't do anything about trading in online, just when you get to the store. I don't think you can do it all online like people currently on the upgrade plan.

Call Apple, but this is from their website about the upgrade plan:

Can I trade in my current smartphone with Apple Trade In?

You can trade in your eligible device and join the iPhone Upgrade Program at an Apple Store when the new iPhone models become available beginning September 20.

It’s literally what every carrier does. Apple just decided to do it in house since everyone was doing it anyway.

You don’t have to upgrade though. Point in case, my iPhone X is paid off this month. I will be upgrading, just unsure if it will be to the pixel or iPhone 11 Pro.

ETA: I do the Verizon Up/Next whatever it’s called. So technically I can jump between phones. With Apple you’d be stuck within apples ecosystem until your phone is paid off.

I just traded in my iPhone 7 via the Apple upgrade program and got an iPhone XR. They send you the new phone and it already has a SIM card in it. You just remove the SIM from your old phone and send it in in the prepaid box. Once they receive it you get a $200 credit on your loan (through Citizens One).

I got mine with Apple Care and it came to $31/mo for 24 months.

Weird. When I tried to fill out the info for the 11 it didn't give a trade in as an option when I went through the upgrade program. When I went through a regular 24 month loan/purchase it worked fine. But the upgrade program has a separate portal and it didn't work. Maybe once its released it will.

I tried to pay the rest of mine off through the Citizens Bank website and it won't let me.

Guess I'll be getting this one through the Verizon upgrade program.
