Sorry if Germans.

I live way out in the sticks way up in NELA , north-west Ouachita parish(around the Calhoun, LA).

Looking for a few good choices for 'wireless' Internet. Verizon seems to be good but they are a little pricey($80/mth plus $20 for an access line for 12GB )
I could even go with DSL with Bell-South(ATT&T))if it were a good choice.

I am willing to think about DishNetwork Internet service.

Just looking for a few opinions.

TIA

Satellite internet is garbage and should be only a last resort.

If you can get DSL, I would at least do that before any kind of wireless.

I live in BFE Texas and use Speed of light, but it may be a local thing. I was signed up for Internet America but did not have a good line of sight to the tower. I have had little to no problems with my wireless Internet. I believe it is upwards of $70 or so, but have no limits and speed is around 12g to 20g

this is by far your best choice. after that would be Verizon. If you have to go that route, just buy plenty of lube.

If you plan on watching videos, viewing photos, etc. and especially streaming, Satellite is pretty much a no-go. You will eat through that data in no time

Get the DSL.

My Dad had this and I tell him I can't stay at his house because of this.

This. Just get the fastest DSL you can get and be done with it.

I have had mixed results with uverse. When it works, I have no complaints, but it intermittently loses connection, sometimes for hours at a time. The technicians have no explanation for it other than "line noise."

I have been talking to some local techie's around here in NELA and they are all in agreement that DSL would be the best way to go.

Thanks guys for all your input.

Yeah, its kinda a misnomer.

BTW, called AT&T today and I cannot get DSL where I am at.

Lady at AT&T said I could get a 'hotspot for about $110/ for 15GB of data. I have to get purchase $50 box and about $50 for an activation fee. This is good for 10 devices.

So outside of slowwwww dial-up or satelite internet. Its down to Verizon and AT&T.

What say the techboard? Verizon or AT&T?

TIA

ETA, I may even check out Sprint or T-Mobile plans too.

either way, you're pretty much fricked if you use the internet even remotely a lot.

spend 1 night watching a movie in HD and say bye bye to that 15 gigs. same goes for satellite internet

I have DSL, which sucks for the most part, but I would take that over a hotspot 100 out of 100 times.

If you only options are Verizon and AT&T hotspots, see which one is cheaper and go with it. if they are the same price, flip a coin. I wouldn't suggest satellite. It may be cheaper, but it's just as slow as DSL, except your ping will be nearly half a second longer and there will be a ridiculous data cap.

Either way, I hope you don't enjoy watching videos or playing online games.

If you have Sprint lte in the area they have a 30 GB + 10GB shared plan for $110 on a Hotspot. I have it and it works OK but don't expect to stream a lot of Movies. One LSU baseball game eats 6-7 Gb. So you would be lucky to see 2-3 games a month.

Agreed. My wife and I both office from home and use VPN tunnels. The kids use a ton, plus all my TV viewing us over FireTV now. I think we consume between one to two Terabytes a month.

check out which has the best LTE signal in your area and go with that. try rootmetrics. verizon typically has better signal in rural areas. as others have said, you're going to burn through data if you stream. my cable went out in storm last weekend and i burnt up 8gig watching about a game and a half and about 3 hours of tv (tethered to roku).

Is it that there is no cable/DSL to your house or nothing even in the area at all ? If you have cable at a road a mile or 2 away then I have a solution for you.

Call Nexus Systems in Monroe. They may be able to get line of sight Internet to your place. If they can you would probably want to go with that. It's not satellite internet, but dishes that are mounted to various cell towers. Very good service
