Anybody use HughesNet for internet services?? Pros vs cons???

Pros:
In some places, it's the only thing available.

Cons:
Unreliable and extremely slow

If anything else is available - cell data service, DSL, Dial-up... do that.

The problem is physics. It just takes time to go from the ground to a satellite and back. Most web pages are made up of a bunch of different files. A TD thread for instance might have 40 different avatar and signature images. A request needs to be made for each piece of the webpage and each request carries that overhead of going into space and back. It’s been a while since I used it, but I would equate it to dialup. DSL would definitely be better if that’s an option.
