I was just given this PowerBook G4 by my boss to format and surplus it, apparently it was purchased by our agency almost two decades ago so anything that accompanied it is loooong gone. Before I can do that I have to figure out how and the interwebz seem pretty silent on how (or even "if") it can be done from a command prompt on bootup (CMD S).

Running OS X.

Any Mac folks out there have any helpful tips?

Does holding down command + R on startup bring up the recovery console?

I can’t remember if those older ones support that or not, guess it depends on the OS X version installed. If not, you are probably going to need the install cds.

Are you near an Apple store? They may have some old discs you could use if you explain the situation.

What size screen is it? Good condition? I’ll take it off your hands.
