I connected my laptop to a monitor with VGA cable and extended my display. I opened two windows and then dragged one over and kept the other on the laptop screen. However, the website that is on the monitor needs to be in active mode or else the feature I need wont work. It refreshes every 30 seconds and pulls new data for me. I cant just get a refresh plugin because if you refresh the address, then I lose all my filters, preferences, etc...

Is there any way for me to keep the monitor site running and active, while clicking and typing stuff on my laptop monitor site?

What type of application is this? I don't see how a monitor would have any impact. If it refreshes the data on its own, it has to have some client-side scripting running on a timer. That should be contained in the browser.

I think he means the app has to be the one in focus. Odd stuff for sure.

Maybe it tracks the time you worked on it?

Yeah sounds like a work-from-home nanny script and OP is trying to get around it.

No tracking haha. Theres a timer that refreshes data and the window or tab needs to be in focus for it to keep counting down. If you click away, it stops the timer and doesnt refresh data.

I believe there's an app named "Always On Top". That might work. I consider this to be a bug though, so you may have better luck simply reporting it. There's no reason for that level of performance tuning on their end unless it's a ton of dynamic content.

You can add a script that will trigger it to bring itself back into focus every x minutes but I think this will be disruptive to your other work.

I would consider it dynamic content as it changes data and theres constant analysis. Would having that window on top possibly interfere with any hot keys or shortcuts I am using in the other tabs/windows?

A thought, if possible, could be to run it on a different computer or vm even, and have the application be installed and be left 'active' there and open on your second monitor while you do whatever on the other, local computer. I agree that it sounds like a bug or a crappy program, though.

Yep, a VM in virtualbox should work. If the app works in Chrome then he can just deploy a Ubuntu or Mint box instead of messing around with finding a Windows ISO and license.

Also, he could spin up a VM in AWS or Azure for $5/mo and keep an RDP window open. Less if he turns it off when not "at work".
