Does CBS have a good OTA HD channel in BR?

Thinking tech logistics for the game on Saturday. It's been a while since I've used an antenna for OTA channels.

Should I go buy an indoor HD antenna? Or can a typical flat panel TV catch OTA channels?

Most TVs can't catch anything without an antenna

Mohu Leaf 30 (29.99 open box on their site ATM) catches 2 CBS stations in Eunice and we are 32 miles from lafayette. I'm not sure where you are in BR but I think with a Leaf you will be fine. (I think you can pick up a leaf at BB and walmart)

Go here and put in your address to see what channels you can get with the leaf: LINK

did you mean cant?

for some reason I've heard WAFB/CBS has a weak signal in BR. Where I'm at I catch 2 CBS affiliates with the leaf. (Acadiana, not BR)

Yes, getting CBS OTA at LSU is usually pretty hard or impossible in my experience. All of the other locals come in fine.

CBS is a VHF channel all the others are UHF.

TV antennas designed to receive the larger VHF signal pattern must be larger than those designed to receive the smaller UHF signal pattern.

I live in saint gabriel and I returned my j's antenna to best buy that I spent $50 and I got a $7 rabbit ears antenna from radio shack. The lady told me even though they are old school they receive the best reception and she told me to put the antenna by the window and it will pick up cbs a lot better.

I've got a buddy who has cut the cord in New Iberia and was having problems. We're watching the game at his house this weekend so I've been trying to get it straight with him.

He bought an antenna sorta like this one:

and caught like 15 channels. I told him to pick up an inline signal amplifier like this:

and supposedly he is getting 20 channels now and CBS is coming in clear as day. Total cost was like $65 on Amazon for the pair. He just told me he is watching the game tonight with no problems, so I guess we shall see.

tech bros that can't catch channel 9 CBS--try a more powerful and omni-directional antenna. all the websites like antennaweb.org make it seem like you only need a 20-mile, unamplified antenna. maybe if you're mounting it 50' in the air, this might work, but i went through a few like the mohu curve30 and those paper thin ones with no luck.

i got this one at radio shack. it's a 50-mile radius with 20db amp, and it's mounted probably 8' or so high, hidden away in a built-in.

https://www.radioshack.com/antennacraft-amplified-omnidirectional-hdtv-antenna/1500080.html

even though this is a 50 mile antenna, i can't seem to get a great signal with NBC33 only 11 miles away. FOX44 comes in, but doesn't even look like it's HD. i don't think that's the antenna though; i think FOX44 just sucks. But CBS and ABC are beautifully uncompressed HD.

one thing to note is that when the antenna's amp is turned off, i don't catch crap.

tl;dr: highly recommend an amplified antenna with a larger reception radius than you think you need.
